I accidentally sent out the show report to the actors' email group, instead of their call report. I didn't notice this until the next day before the show when one of the Actors that had added some pauses into his dialogue mentioned to me he would try to "not get lost" in the scene as I had stated in the report.

Doh!

The note did say that" he found his way back relatively quickly" so it wasn't a total bad situation with the actor, and I had planned to tell him the next day before half hour, but he got to me first!

Stage Management: Other / Creating a Handbook

I am now the resident stage manager at a professional company and also the production coordinator and one of my extra duties is to create a handbook for other stage managers, because I can't do every show.
I was wondering if anyone had to do this before and if they had a basic outline. I'm just not sure how to organize/approach this manual.

I use one script punched so that the script is on the left of the binder I write my cues on those pages and the right page has a numbered list for blocking and place for notes.

Blocking notes are numbers on the script and written on the corresponding line on the right page.

Cues are on those avery garage sale dots (which can be moved easily during tech without rewriting) I hardly look at the blocking pages once the show opens.

The concession didn't work out, but the AEA/ASM I did get is awesome! She got hired two days before rehearsals so we had a bit of a scare. The actor who was going to be the ASM actually became the deputy and has been wonderful too!

I worked in one theatre (Brand new building at the time) in a school that not only was the sound booth behind non opening windows, the water tanks for the restrooms were on the roof and so if they were not used enough during the day, the pressure would build up and it would rattle. It sounded like a helicopter was landing on the roof. I don't know how, but one of the volunteers for the front of house figured out if you flushed 5 of the toilets before the show that would resolve the problem. Which led to the phrase "Toilet flush go"

Just curious - what is the contract? Very few allow actor/asms without specific concession requests....and for MHF you need to look at all the places this person is being expected to do double-duty and make sure you are covered on that side of the deck!

Has anyone worked with an AEA Actor as an ASM? I am doing Most Happy Fella next and was told by the producer that since it's a musical and they don't have enough $ to hire an AEA ASM they are going to use one of the actors. I'm really just kind of wondering what to expect from them, as is my fear that they really won't be as useful as a regular asm (AEA or non).

OK so I have a tackle box that I use for my kit, but sometimes I just need my laptop script etc, but had a difficult time finding the right one that could hold enough, wasn't freakin expensive, and rugged enough.  I have found it from a company called Think Geek, it's called the Bag of holding.  It holds EVERYTHING!  http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/bags/aaa5/ 

Anyone have one they love?

Thanks for sharing! I was just thinking today I need a bigger laptop bag that will hold my laptop and my zippered binder and NOT be bursting at the seams. Have you purchased this yet and taken it for a spin?

I did purchase it, it's about $50 and it's great.  It is a canvas material so not extremely waterproof, but that's what umbrellas are for! I just love it, because during tech I was able to throw my portable printer in it (cannon i90) and later a pair of shoes, with my usual laptop, 3 ring binder, notepads, etc.
