SMNetwork has a bit of a learning curve.  We do require that members follow the Community Standards for every post.  It's a good idea for all new members to read through the rules before joining, but we realize that not everyone finds them for the first few months as a member.  In the interest of not embarrassing new members, we have restricted some of the features until you have established yourself more firmly on the site and figure out how we run.

If you have registered but never posted, you will gain reading and posting access to some of the hidden boards.  You will be able to receive Personal Messages (PMs) but not send them.  You will not be able to post polls.

Once you make your first public post you will be able to send PMs.  You will be able to see all boards.  You will be able to post to most boards, although new topics you create on a handful of boards will be subject to moderator approval.  You will be added to the "Tourist" posting group and gain one star under your name.

Once you make your 5th public post you will be able to add polls to your own posts.  You will be able to post to the restricted "Homework Help" board.  Your new topics will no longer require moderator approval.  You will be added to the "New to Town" posting group and gain an additional star.

Members with 50 posts get the designation of "Contributor" and 3 stars.  This is mostly a prestige group.

Members with at least 100 posts get the designation "SM Expert" and four stars.  Members in this group gain the ability to add keyword tags to their own posts.

Members with at least 200 posts gain the ability to add keyword tags to all posts on the site.  They are called "Permanent Residents" and have five stars beneath their name.

Finally, our "Superstars" are a select group of members who have contributed at least 500 posts.  They are few and far between, and we love them very much.  Usually Superstars are also members of the moderator team, although this is not always the case.

Changes will be made to this post as restrictions are added and removed.
