Just a note. If you are using letters for cues skip Q. It makes it too easy to misunderstand if you call Q Q go.

I was allways told to Skip I, L, and Q as they are normally mistaken and sometimes O as it looks like 0 if your not paying attention. Does anyone else do anythign like this?

This chart was devised to track body mics in a production where mics had to be traded between scenes because we had more speaking characters than we had mics. 

It served several functions:

1. We posted it backstage as a reference chart for the actors and crew so they knew when to swap mics and with whom.
2. In a couple of instances, it helped the crew quickly figure out which actor was SUPPOSED to give up the mic to another actor, but forgot.
3. It gave the sound console operator a quick visual overview of each scene so she knew which mics to bring up in each scene (white boxes up, grey boxes down).

I put notes in bubbles explaining how to read the chart --hope they help.

I've never done a mic tracking chart before and would really appreciate it if anyone here could give me an example or two?  The director wasn't very specific and I would hate to do it wrong.

Here's one I put together for Carousel.  The empty second column had the actor's last name and I just removed them for privacy.  If you have questions following it, let me know.

Name under each scene, I usually include the character in parentheses.
Depending on what kind/ how much help you have you may want to record to frequencies and such also.
In case somebody figures out how to play with buttons during intermission.

Thank you so much, Digga.  Your example helped out a lot.  Now I have the rest of the week to work on it.  Unfortunately we only have eight wireless mics and we're doing a musical... runs into some problems when you have more than eight characters on stage at a time with mini-solos.  The entire prologue is done with the curtains closed on the apron so choir mics are useless at that point.

Not a problem.  We had an issue of limited number of mics as well which is why we had to make the chart to track who got what mics and when.  Granted - we had more than 8 but the chart definitely makes it easier.  Let me know how it works out for you.
