Make the Clicking of the shoes STOP!
« on: Mar 13, 2007, 08:48 am »
Hey, I am a Sophmore in High School and have run 3 shows already but I keep having the problem of the casts clicky shoes being heard from back stage. Is there anything I can do to make the clicking stop?

rubberize! Adding a coat od rubber to the bottom's of shoes stop's the clicking. This will not work if the cast has to dance in these shoes. I'd just bring it to their attention (I'll assume the clicking is not purposeful)- sometimes back stage you have to walk on tip toe or even remove loud shoes... :)

Also, if you have old carpet runners or scraps, you can put them down in the areas where the worst clicking comes from.  Just make sure you COMPLETELY tape down all the edges to avoid making a tripping hazard.

Get the cast to walk on the balls of their feet rather than their heels.  I can run silently in any shoes, no matter how "clicky" they are when I walk properly (OK, tap shoes might be an exception, but I've never tried!).  If you don't put your heels down the clicking is reduced a lot.

Ducky -

Try speaking with the Facilities Supervisor/Head Janitor at your school to see if they have extra rugs or carpets. When my high school mounted a tap show in the gym (oh, the noise!!) we made good friends with all the facilities staff and borrowed a dozen 4x8' rugs - the cheap, rubber-with-fiber ridges type. They were fabulous, and we repaid them with free tickets to the show and a special thanks in the program.

Best of luck!
