AEA vs CAEA
« on: Jan 03, 2013, 01:20 pm »
Due to cross-border union politics I am in an interesting situation where at my resident theater (usually a AEA LORT contract), I am having to join CAEA (ITA Contract) for one show that is coming in. The two contracts are close but have some subtle differences.  I love that CAEA spells out SM hours much more than AEA does.  It is also interesting to meld CAEA into an US structure.  Much different than say, me traveling to Canada for a job.  And people keep telling me I should take advantage of going to the chiropractor.  (Love the different health rules.)

Has anybody else done this?  In either direction?  Were there rules that caught you off guard?

We have reciprocity with CAEA and you should not have to join separately if you are already a member of AEA.

As always, check with your local AEA Rep to be sure...

Just to clarify, this is not a question about joining.  I've joined. It is a production with a Canadian producer, Canadian actress, hence the need for me to join.  The producer paid my initiation fee so no money out of my pocket.  As I said, cross border politics.

Just curious if anyone else had done this, but obviously the answer is no.

Please do check w AEA and let us know the answer - because on this end (as a former monitor) we were instructed that because of reciprocity, they didn't need to join AEA but would be considered so if they were CAEA members. Hmmmm.....

And - have fun regardless

Oddly enough AEA / my business rep released me from 2 weeks of my regular contract for this.  They know.  My guess a lot of this is stemming from AEA bringing tours across the border into Canada.

Out of curiosity, what is the show?
