Well in CAEA you need to Apprentice Stage Manage on a min of 6 shows for 2 different companies or 8 shows with the same theatre all during a 3 year period.

The link to all the information is http://www.caea.com/EquityWeb/EquityLibrary/Membership/TheRoadtoEquity.pdf

How do you join AEA?

Thanks for the help!!

Joining AEA.  You can join in one of three ways:

1) work in equity theatres as a AEA candidate and accrue 50 weeks of work, pay your money

2) have a theatre hire you on under an equity contract, pay your money

3) be a member of a sister union, pay your money

They did away with #2 a few years ago. Now SMs HAVE to complete an entire apprenticeship. In my case, it's been somewhat difficult since there are only 2 theatres here in Ottawa where I can apprentice (plus the opera). It's not much different than most cities in Canada, with the exception of Toronto.

Of course, the "pay your money" part is pretty universal LOL!

That was my reaction, too ... the website says that you can join by virtue of getting your contract, though.  Tigerrr, were you talking about CAEA?

Yes, he was mistaken above if talking about AEA, though I have a hunch he's talking about CAEA.

You CAN get your AEA card by being offered an Equity Contract.  I am 110% positive.
