Exercise!
We are busy individuals and sometimes personal fitness is not our top priority (food, water and sleep usually are)....so:
- Do you have a daily ritual to stay healthy?
- What are some of the ways you like to stay in shape?
- Favorite exercises?
- Favorite gyms?
I bring this up because I find myself having to and wanting to exercise more and more now that I've been out of college for over a year.  I find I was always in better shape in college...maybe because I was running around more, or took a dancing class, or a voice and movement class, or stage combat, etc... I also just ran a 5K-obstacle course (www.ruggedmaniac.com) about a week ago!

I recently took up boxing! Because the only thing scarier than a stage manager.....is a stage manager who can throw a left hook.

But really, it's a lot of fun, a great stress reliever, and a good workout. I also own a Wii Fit, which has been great for doing a little workout whenever I can find the time. I also get off the subway a stop earlier than the theater and walk each way. I try to walk most anywhere I can.

If you have Netflix, you can stream exercise videos on your computer (or Wii/Playstation, if you have all of that hooked up). The 20-minute power workouts are great!
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

As an ASM in a theatre where the dressing rooms are down a flight of stairs from the deck, and the booth up above the balcony, I find that during show runs I feel like I'm getting enough exercise - especially on those two show days!

But I'm currently SMing a simple, 2-person show and we're in rehearsals. I've been walking to and from work (about a half mile), which definitely helps, but yesterday I was running late and drove, and found myself needing to run around on one of the 10 minute breaks to wake my body up.

I'd love to be doing some kind of movement. I really enjoy dancing, but my back is very temperamental and I generally find it's too much. I should do some yoga and stretching, though. I used to stretch before bed in high school and I found it very calming.

Happily for me, I'm currently teaching and I have a break between the end of my class on Mondays and Wednesdays and a few meetings that I have to attend on those days.  So I go run on the track or go to the fitness center on campus.  Thank god for it - I feel better, even if I'm not actually losing weight (which I haven't checked, so who knows!)

This topic has been merged with "How do you keep in shape?".  Please, continue discussion!

I'm fond of yoga, myself.
