The Greatest Show Never Made
« on: Apr 03, 2012, 11:41 am »
Who has a premise for a show that should never ever be made? Either for subject matter, technical reasons *coughcoughspidermancoughsplutter* or just plain bad taste?

Here's mine: YouTube: The Musical

You know, I was having a discussion with my ASM last night about this...basically that the premise for most musicals sound pretty silly. A Titanic musical? Oh, ok. Jerry Springer? CATS?!

I'd be worried about a musical adaptation of Jersey Shore, mainly for the all-club-music cast album.
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

Unfortunately, it looks like it has been done! When I was in Chicago a few weeks ago, I saw this poster for Jersey Shore the musical....

Ken Ludwig wrote Midsummer/Jersey, a mash-up of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Jersey Shore.Review . Granted, it's not a musical.

There have already been two movies about 9/11 created. My wife and I started watching the Nicolas Cage one (World Trade Center) and after about 10 minutes, I couldn't watch it anymore. I've seen one staged reading of a 9/11 survivor's book, That Day in September.

James Bond, the Musical? Harry Potter, the Musical? iPad, the Musical?

Harry Potter, the Musical has been done - it was done at UofM and Harry was played by Darren Criss (now of Glee fame)

There's also a Harry Potter show, Potted Potter, slated to open in a couple weeks in NYC.

So is it actually possible that NOTHING is off-limits? I feel like even an Angry Birds musical would stand a chance at this point.

Since they're making an Angry Birds movie, the stage adaptation of it can't be that far behind  ::)

My friends and I used to joke about Snakes on a Plane: The Musical.

We wrote "Savage in Limbo - the musical" in the booth during the play. It was pretty funny.

The latest version of Blue Man Group features giant iPad like devices called GiPads.  Almost iPad the musical.
