We can't work all the time, and for some people, we can't even work the amount we want.  And Lady knows, stage management is a stressful job, yet somehow full of people with crazy senses of humor.  So, what do you do to "play," when the opportunity arises?

I'm a costume freak, so I like to attend local events that involve dressing in outlandish clothes, frequently in public.  Steampunk masquerade balls, the renaissance festival (which I don't know if that counts as play, since I actually work there), Piratepalooza, and last night, a group of twenty or so like-minded crazies donned horrible costumes made out of boxes and invaded the traditional Dragon*Con hotels for the first annual Cardboard*Con.  It was the most fun I've had in months, and I left before everyone started drinking mai tais!

On more sedate days, my husband and I enjoy playing cooperative video games, together, but costumes beat that out any day.

So, what's your favorite crazy play day?

I am a huge gamer . . .

I actually own every single gaming system - in my living room you can find a playstation 2, playstation 3, xbox, xbox 360, gamecube, wii, and Nintendo DSI and PlayStation Portable - I kid you not.  I am the world oldest 13 year old boy.

I find gaming a great way to blow off steam, unwind, and keeps me a little more active then just watching tv.

I've always been a bit of a train nut (ok, way more than a bit!), so I spend a lot of my free time (what's that???) at a small tourist railway about an hour from my home.  Some days I work on the train as a Conductor or Brakeman or others on the steam locomotive as the Trainee Fireman.  It is pretty cool to work on equipment that was built before your Grandparents were born!

Sorry, I don't have any pictures of me wearing stripped overalls ...  ;)

When the opportunity does arise...

I do enjoy a good game of cards, usually poker, with a group of friends - very casual, small wagers.  We also play some more fantasy-based games (Call of Cthulu, Magic: The Gathering, etc...) when we get the chance.  And there's always good-'ole Rock Band.

I like to get outside in the summer if at all possible.  Now, with the weather finally turning from cold and dreary to sunny, I am looking forward to getting some pick-up baseball games together.  Perhaps some Ultimate Frisbee or an outing on the golf course before heading in to the theatre.

Oh, how I envy your MatthewShiner...I never had anything beyond a game-boy...I may start some Starcraft 2 when it finally comes out, as it looks veeery cool.

Hiking trails w/ husband and dogs.  Looking through antique, junk shops and consignment/2nd hand stores to see if there are any props to buy or make note of.

I dive. Although it is a hobby that seems to suprise everyone who I tell - cos I don't look like the diving type. I also live about 1/2 a km from the beach, in a town well know for it's street festivals, markets and events with a huge cafe culture, so walking through town with a few friends can be quite entertaining.

I like to bury myself in the garden shed and melt glass. I make glass beads (lampwork), which is extremely relaxing as you cant think about anything else when melting glass. More active contenders - gardening or beachcombing.

Dinner parties. Nothing too crazy, but I love the planning and making a huge meal for friends! It's also a great way to catch up when I've been in the black hole of tech week and haven't seen people.
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

Wow, these are some awesome playtime hobbies.  Old trains?  Glass bead making?  Diving?

When I am off from school (graduating in April) or on my day off from working on a show I quilt. There is just something about sewing straight lines that makes me happy... and the color combination fun doesn't suck either!

For a quiet night at home, I like to curl up on the couch with a good book and a good bourbon. But for a night of fun out with friends, karaoke!

Tequila Night.  It's my now infamous dinner party where all of the food contains tequila (from the salsa to the dessert) and all of the cocktails are tequila based.  We call the rounds of tequila shots cue-to-cues.

On a quieter note, books and movies tend to be my go to for a relaxing afternoon/evening at home.

I lock myself in my room with headphones and a good book.  It's a nice contrast to the constant hustle bustle of the theater world.

I'm taking a creative writing course right now, so when I'm not in the theatre (I should say, when I'm not working - I'm usually in the theatre anyway) I'm working on some project for that. Also, small crafts/collages/repairs - like decorating my backpack with buttons or hot glue gunning sequins to CD cases.
