Scrapbook? Personal mementos?
« on: Feb 02, 2010, 04:36 pm »
Since I started doing regional productions back in 19** I've kept a scrapbook of sorts detailing who was in what show, any problems or challenges that took place, what I liked about the production and any general information, including photos. I find that I've had to reference it several times when I needed to know the name of an actor I've worked with, when I'm doing a production again or if I just want to reminisce(sp?) about good times.

Anyone else do this too?

I've done something like that.  I had a scrapbook of playbills and pics, just for sentimental reasons - someday when I have kids I can show them - look, I did cool stuff!

Although I haven't done it in sometime, I kept a post-mortem journal for myself.  I would basically evaluate what I could have done better, things I learned along the way, things I did really well...  It was a nice opportunity for me to take stock of each experience (as a post-mortem is) but also to look back and see how far I've come.

I used to keep programs and stuff, but after moving a couple of times and 150 shows, I found I just didn't have space and time and energy to keep things anymore.  Now I will keep mementos from big events (world premieres, etc) but other than than I just keep a list of shows on my computer.

A post-mortem journal is a good idea.  I hadn't really ever thought about that!!

I keep posters from some, playbills from almost everything, and any thank you cards/pictures/posters that I get from anyone. I also have a screw, small piece of wood, and dog tag from some shows. What eats up space though is the show shirts, I'm considering cutting them up to male a quilt.

Yeah . . . I used to try to hold on to something, anything from every show - but as time marches on . . . and I try to simplify my life . . . I just cant hold on to something from everything.
