On The Boards

This is a really interesting idea. Its potential both for success and for exploitation is sizable and I wonder how big an artistic hall of mirrors it will create.

I just saw that article, and i agree. I wonder what sorts of rules/regs will have to be put up in terms of which shows can be taped and published, and what it will mean for ticket sales in certain sectors of the entertainment world.  Will we be getting the response of "oh, I don't think I can afford a ticket to xyz show, I'll just watch it on my friend's On The Boards when it comes out", or will it be used more as an archival/nostalgic thing?

Should be interesting to see how it develops.

I think it has the potential to really help the arts if anything. Right now AMC (or is it Regal?) works with a company to bring productions from the Met onscreen in their theatres (and I believe they're live broadcasts but again I'm not certain); the ticket price is usually quite reasonable and everyone always has the best seat in the house. It keeps the arts up-to-date and in public view. I can talk to someone about the Met's production of Turandot that I found fascinating and I never stepped foot in the place!
This just might be the tentative first step to something that, ten years from now, becomes commonplace.

If you're in NYC, lots of archival recordings of productions are available in the Lincoln Center archives or New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. They have a ton of resources, and it's free. However, I love that this company wants to film smaller shows with high-quality footage...I could see it also becoming a good resource to show examples of your work!
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco
