Little luxuries...
« on: Jan 21, 2011, 02:16 am »
What are your "during tech I allow myself..." or "during tech I treat myself..." treats?

Come on - we all know tech is an excellent excuse to eat poorly, not exercise and sleep even less.  But do you have any little allowances, gifts or passes in behavior that you generally allow yourself?

My present to myself: first day off after opening - a massage.  Money has never been better spent.  I'm also not a big fast food eater, but tech is my Most Likely Time To Eat McDonalds.  And I don't beat myself up for it.  The 80 hour work week is doing enough of that for me.

I always buy a bag of Peanut Butter M&Ms at the start of tech, and they usually last through the weekend - depending on how many people help me eat them. :)

I also will wear something tech-related in my hair (it's often tie line, but I have been known to keep my bun in place with a c-wrench) to appease the Theatre Gods.  I figure I need all the help I can get!  That's not really a gift to myself as much as a tech tradition but I thought it was appropriate to share.

My sweet husband has learned to be EXTRA nice to me during tech.

My chocolate preferences are a somewhat fluctuating assortment. However, during tech I have to have SOME kind of chocolate -- whatever I'm into at the time, I guess. I tend to go for individually wrapped things, though -- so that if people start taking pieces, they aren't diving their hands into a bag of M&Ms and getting the rest of us sick.
Also, and this is never changing, I need Honey Wheat pretzel twists. They are so good -- perfect combination of sweet and salty. And mix them with chocolate? Heaven.

A big ol Starbucks flavored latte the morning of a 10 out of 12, as opposed to "whatever halal cart is closest" coffee.
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

like missliz, i definitely splurge on the coffee front during tech.  I find that drinking coffee that doesn't taste like cardboard (like the coffee in my office) is a nice treat.  I particularly enjoy tech weeks that fall during holiday flavor seasons at starbucks... pumpkin and caramel brulee lattes are definitely my favorite!

I usually splurge on take out and coffee while taking a break from the gym for the length of tech...those little luxuries during tech always seem so unhealthy looking back at them, but they seem so necessary sometimes.  I wish they didn't!

My little luxury is simply not worrying. I'm not going to go out of my way to double-check what I'm eating. It's enough that I need to go out of my way to get a decent night's sleep!

Gravy cheese fries at a nearby pub, just once during each tech.  Usually with a friend who has nothing to do with the show - so that I can either vent freely, or catch up on everything happening in the outside world that I haven't noticed.

I'm with most everyone else on the coffee front.  Caribou Coffee has a dark chocolate mocha that is exquisite.  So dark it's practicaly black.  I got it iced, once, and was startled by the depth of color!
And I also don't worry.  I usualy track what I eat, but during tech week, I don't bother, as long as I'm drinking enough water.
