Hello!
I'm new to the network and I am wondering if anyone could offer some advice, oh and I am Canadian so I'm looking to study/work within Canada. I just finished my undergrad degree (in Sociology and Drama) and I am interested in a career in stage managing, but I'm having trouble finding what I want. I have been doing a bit of research on university and college programs - but I am not interested in another four year program. I have stage managed four productions in high school and only one in university, but throughout university I also operated and designed sound, directed a play, and assisted in designing lighting - so I have a experience in a lot of different areas. The unfortunate thing is that my school didn't even offer a course on stage managing and I don't have any professional experience so I think it is going to be pretty difficult to try to jump right into a professional theatre job. I have been looking for a work-study program or something, I really want hands-on experience and every program I have looked at includes a lot of stuff I have already done (ie. studying theatre histroy, acting, etc.). Any suggestions??
Thanks so much.
