Suggestions on theatrical resumes
« on: Mar 30, 2012, 09:29 am »
I'm going to graduate in May, and I'm working on getting my resume(s) together to look for employment after I lose my job in August. Any suggestions on what to do and what not to do? Also, how would you suggest gearing my resume towards a specific craft of theatre (my concentrations are stage management first and foremost and properties design)?

I took a Design Portfolio class to help me get started on creating my resume, business cards, and website, but it would be helpful to get advice from fellow stage managers. :)

Thanks!

Amy

Resumes have been discussed a lot on these forums.  Here are a few links to posts about resumes.  I would start there, and then if you have more specific questions, feel free to ask them.

Hi Amy,
Congrats on your upcoming graduation! There's a thread stickied at the top of the "Employment" board that has a long conversation about theatrical resumes- it has some posts about customizing your resume for the kind of positions you are applying for (stage management, props, etc).

It may also be useful to nose around the "Resume Browser", where other members have uploaded their resumes, and see what others have done in terms of formatting.

Welcome to the boards!

Hi Amy!
In addition to the discussions linked below, and Maribeth's great suggestions, a search of the site (see the top right of the webpage) will bring up a ton of topics about resumes from a number of different perspectives. I'm going to go ahead and lock this topic to avoid creating duplicates, but feel free to ask specific questions on some of those posts!

Welcome :)
