Shadowing in NYC
« on: Jan 05, 2010, 04:40 pm »
I am planning a trip to NYC this March and have already planned on seeing several broadway shows.  I remeber from one of my theatre conferences that there was a program where you went to a show and got to shadow the stage manager of that broadway show.  How do I do this?  I went to Stage Manager's Association website and found their educational committee but couldn't find anything helpful and they aren't responding to my e-mails. Any help?

Thanks!

Not sure about any specific special programs, but this thread might help.

N.B. SMA Operation Observation opportunities are posted to the SMA members when they become available.

So I would need to become a memeber in order to be a part of the Operations Observations?

I had a friend of mine go backstage after a Broadway show and hand the security person her resume, saying she wanted to shadow the Stage  Manager, and to please have them contact her. The Stage Manager of Wicked did contact her and she did shadow. However, her resume was good. I don't know if they'll contact everyone who attempts that. Off-Broadway might work too, if you don't mind walking in the stage door un-invited it is worth a shot.
