Stage Management Prompt Book Archive for Research

Hi there! I am grateful for this form and all the rich experience that dwells within it.  As a student stage manager, it is great to hear that even the professionals experience some of the very same problems I do.

Here's one I cannot seem to find a solution to.  I am working on some research relating to rehearsal process.  I would like to review pompt books from some original shows.  Is there any organization that contains these books.  I tried looking in Lincoln Center and NYPL for the Performing Arts with not luck.  I will be sure to call them tomorrow.  Any advice or assistance would be great!

My alma mater, Marymount Manhattan College, has a few prompt books in their archives that were donated. I can't remember which shows, but if you contact Mary Brown at the library you might be able to arrange to come in and see them.

Can you be more specific about your "research relating to rehearsal process?"  Prompt books may not be what you actually need, and this community would be happy to help guide you, if you could be more specific.

I second what Ruth said. I'm wondering, from your question, if you're actually looking for compare and contrast information on how new plays/musicals rehearse versus existing or established shows? I work on a lot of new musicals, and would be happy to answer questions if that's what you mean.

I am researching rehearsal structure, practices, organization, and process for play with particularly difficult subject matter, i.e. How I Learned to Drive, Pretty, Pretty, or, That Rape Play, The Normal Heart, Angels in America So I would want to look at rehearsal and production reports, schedules, etc

Have you researched theatres that have done these plays, and have you contacted their Production Managers or Artistic Directors?
