Amusingly, one of the top search terms that brings people to SMNet is "Bye Bye Birdie script".

The Santaland Diaries - This year will be my fourth?  Fifth?  I've lost track.  One year as ASM and all the following as SM.

I love that Show!! I've SM'd it twice with the same cast but different venues (both Bars!)

Well- as someone mentioned earlier- I think Dance SM's have the market on re-mounts! (A million NUTCRACKER'S, DRACULA'S, CINDERELLA's, SWAN LAKE's, GISELLE's-- but strangely, no COPPELIA'S!)

But, I have also done 3 NOISES OFF's, 2 TUNA CHRISTMAS's, 2 ROMEO's, 2 A CHRISTMAS CAROL's ... and I think that's it~ Although I'm set to SM a 2nd TWELFTH NIGHT, and a 2nd RIGHT NEXT TO ME this season!!!

In about a month, I'll start my 4th production of The 39 Steps (all in one year.)  It has almost been a tour of Florida (did it in Orlando, Fort Myers, and Miami) with a random production in Rhode Island.  :)  It's fun.

While I interned at a community theater years ago, I learned that they do Christmas Carol and some other play each year. If my memory was correct, majority of the cast was the same as the year prior, only replacing those who could not do the show.

If you ever experienced this before how do you keep your sanity and keep it fresh for yourself? I would find doing the same play each year with same director, similar casts and production designs and at a small pool of the same locations would become boring and grey.

There is a recurring production of a one-man A Christmas Carol that has been running for 6 years.  I've been the SM of this show twice (years 4 and 6) and wouldn't turn the show down if offered again.  Each year there is some kind of innovation which helps spice things up.  In year 4 we added a chandelier, in year 5 they added more set dressing, and this most recent year a few older set pieces were replaced and a large window used in another production that year was adapted to fit the show and add some more depth.
Being able to revisit a piece each year really hones it.  The actor tweaks the script slightly each year, adding one or two sentences that he skipped before, taking out a word or two that are confusing and don't get a response.  The lighting designer adds specials on new set pieces to create new shadows, and sound cues are enhanced.  For every show I do (and this goes for many theatre professionals) I ask "What would I have done differently."  Remounting a show is the perfect chance to do that thing differently.
I'm remounting an entirely different production later this season, with the potential to transfer the show at a later date, and I'm thinking of it more as moving back in to an old home.  How can I rearrange the furniture to fix the things I didn't like it the first time I lived there?  That's how I stay sane.
