PROFESSIONALISM: Question For NY SM's

Hey folks. So I'm coming to NY to do a show (with producers and a director who take themselves very seriously, as they should) which I'm really excited about.  Here's my major question-what's your general opinion on what you should wear in rehearsal?  I've been in very casual settings up to this point in my career (academia, fairly casual theatres in the Midwest) and am wondering if I should plan on dressing up more than I have in the past as these guys seem to mean business.  Just curious what "the standard" is.  Thanks for any and all opinions!

I like to wear witty t-shirts and shorts.  In other words, wear what I find comfortable that day.  I don't play dress up and the producers, directors, designers, etc, all seem to enjoy my attempt to lighten things up with what I wear.  If I wanted to dress up for work I would have gone into corporate america.  I like being able to dress casually and comfortably for work.

I like to dress up, so I do.  Just keep in mind that NY actors tend to be more on the fashion forward side, so you may feel underdressed in a tshirt and shorts.

In general, where what's comfortable for the work you will be doing; and as professional as you want to be taken.

I agree with all below.  What ever works for you!  I like to be comfortable but also like to dress up... so its usually a little of both!

I find it interesting that both this current thread and the thread linked to above are started by GradSM.

Girl, you must really love clothes.  You should find yourself a gig in fashion.  I have a great time making the most out of my dress blacks during fashion week.

On a serious note, your clothes are what you wear them as.  Sometimes a t-shirt and jeans can be dressy, if it's the right t-shirt with the right jeans.  You can get away with "funkier" clothing if you always look put together.  A more casual "outfit" can be better than a generic business wear, if it's done well.  Personally, if I wanted to wear a polo shirt and khakis, I would work at BestBuy. But to each his/ her own.)

You don't want to be sloppy but you need to be comfortable.

I wear jeans, cute supportive sneakers, and a solid color polo or t-shirt with a hoodie.  During tech, I mix it up with t-shirts that have designs on them... like the name of my alma mater, or a pirate.

I feel like the solid colored t-shirt/polo helps me look like an adult/respectable/professional, but I can still do what I need to do.
