PAPERWORK: What to call someone who the script is "Adapted by"

Hi guys... so I'm putting together a contact sheet for a show that the script was "adapted by" someone. On the contact sheet when I'm listing roles ie. director, designer, stage manager etc, who do I list this person as so it's a matching noun - is Dramaturge ok? It's not a real fit but I can't think of any other term to list - adapter - lol. :)  Any ideas? Thanks!

adapter is the corrector term

like translator

like playwright

(unless there is some sort of other contractual term)

I would go with Adapter.  Dramaturg is definitely not the correct term.  If you want to be more specific, go with Script or Text Adapter- you said you wanted it to fit with the other titles on the contact sheet, but those aren't all one word (Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Music Director, the list goes on).  The correct title is more important than making the contact sheet symmetrical, as much as your anal retentive stage management tendencies might tell you otherwise.

My company adapts novels all the time into shows. But we always give billing to the author so for example our marquee's read "Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five adapted by Eric Simonson" but when we write out the contact sheet, Simonson would be listed as playwright. Despite adapting a work, they are still writing the play. They are still the playwright. We just make sure we put "adapted by" in all media outlets to avoid any confusion.

Best arguement for adapting a work for a musical: you become the book writer!
