The annual nutcracker 7th inning stretch....
« on: Dec 20, 2007, 05:13 pm »
Anyone else in the middle of one right now?  I have 7 shows in the next 3 days....i'm almost there!!  I can see the last page of my production schedule!

Want to weigh in?  What's been the best/worst experience of your nutcracker this season?  =)

Mine got canceled, both bad and good.
Bad= no money :'(
Good=more time with family and job hunting

There was a nice video on NYTimes.com about the NY Ballet's 2000th performance of the Nutcracker.  It included a very brief sighting of the SM:

Personally, this was the second year I've worked Nutcracker from the box office end.  The show is great fun, but fielding the question "Will my 3-year-old be able to see?" twenty times a day is not as fun.

I heard a great quote at the stage door.  There was this older gentleman - maybe late 40's, early 50's, and he blandly states "I'm here to pick up a party girl".  Then he thought about what he had said, and added:  "That didn't come out sounding too good".

But my nutcracker was over two weeks ago, we had a week of symphony rehearsal and followed by a week of nutcracker rehearsal.  I'm glad that part of the month is over with!

I have the last of my Nutcrackers today.  It's my 14th year calling it for the same company.  It was a pretty uneventful run this year, which is just fine with me!

I've got my last two today!  2:00 and 7:30 pm...then I'm outta here for 10 days!

Except that West Michigan is supposed to get a huge snowstorm today through tomorrow morning...so my drive might get delayed a few hours...

I'm just bumping this up because it's another year and another Nutcracker for me. :)  Today we had a mini-performance for school kids and the fire alarm went off during the show. The great thing is that teachers are much better at evacuating a theater than the average audience member.

One thing I have to say, this show is great for helping pay the holiday bills.

I'm stage managing my first Nutcracker this year. It's very small and only two performances but it should be interesting none the less! (And also help with that whole paying the holiday bills thing!)

I have the symphony's holiday concert this weekend, and then the local Nutcracker loads in on Monday for a week of rehearsals and a weekend of performances, followed immediately by two other touring concerts.  The show itself isn't bad, they do the same thing every year, but this year its sandwiched on both sides with other shows so its going to be a long two weeks!
