Moving to NYC- any job advice?

A family tragedy has necessitated a quick move to NYC this December. I have some connections, and a few leads, but kind of anemic. Does anyone know the best group to which to send mass communication unsolicited? Of casting offices, agents, or directly to the companies, which is the most direct route to work?

I guess my first question to you would be are you union?  I live and work in NYC and have a few leads for you if you'd like, but most of the work is union.  Join the SMA (Stage Mangement Association) if you haven't already.  They will send you postings of job offers.  Look on Playbill.com and if you are union let me know and I can give you a few peoples names.  The only other thing I would mention to you is that there are three very destinct hiring times in the City.  The largest boom for work is in August, the second is in late November-early December and the next big boom is in March (when everyone hires for summer work).  You may have a bit more work cut out for you since you are looking for work in the "off-season" however, it is do-able.

I am non-union right now, though I have plenty of experience in union houses and with guest contracts. I would be very grateful for any leads. I know I am coming in a little off-season, and I will probably temp for a bit if I can't get SM work. I will be in the city the last week of October to talk to some people, so anything you have I'd be thrilled. Thank you so much!
