Introductions / Semi-Retired SM But Still Teaching!
« Last post by JackieCCPA on Feb 28, 2021, 01:06 pm »
Hello out there in SM Network Land.
I'm a Semi-Retired (meaning I don't SM professionally anymore) "Recovering SM" who spent half my career in Opera. Have also worked in Musical Theatre, a bit of Dance and as an Entertainment Technician / SM on Cruise Ships. I have a bit of Film and TV experience as an Assistant Director (1st AD), On Set Props, Locations Manager and Set Dec. I teach Stage Management at the College level and am the FOH Manager for two large historic Civic Theatres. I've joined the SM Network to support my Students, but am always happy to answer questions or engage in dialogue.

I've been chatting with some colleagues who are exploring a move from ArtsVision ( to Diese ( - does anyone have any experience with the latter? We're both large professional orchestras with complex planning and production processes, so keen to hear from anyone who has used them in a similar scenario.
I keep getting the 404 message that there is no attachment to download. Its entirely possible its me. Anyone have advice on being able to download the forms posted here?

I usually list the name that the company was when I worked there, and if room "(now New Name)." If it's a place that I find particularly releveant to the job I'm applying for, it's something to mention in the cover letter. It also depends on whether they were known better as the newer or older name. I worked at the Tennessee Repertory Theatre when it was under Equity's LORT agreement, it's now the Nashville Rep and SPT with one LOA to LORT per year (lower tier contract now). I like to point out the higher one, in my case.

Its been over 10 years sine I've done it, but I remember lots of things like book bags, school books, notebooks, cell phones, basket balls (of course), cafeteria items, desks and chairs.  I would suggest reading through the script and making a list of items called for and then sitting down with your director and set designer (assuming you are SM-ing or Props) and have a conversation about items that they want / will need.

So I'm in the position where a company that I have an ongoing relationship with is rebranding, including a name change. The name change is not drastic, but it is nonetheless a change.

How would you approach this on your resume? Do you keep the old company name for the older productions and put it on the new shows moving forward? Do you change all the old show names as well? Another approach?
