Employment / Re: resume format
« on: Apr 22, 2019, 02:05 pm »
I was recently brought on as the Production Stage Manager and Associate Producer for a theater company. Previously my resume consisted entirely of individual productions.

Any suggestions on how to format/list this position on my resume?

Employment / low stipend what to do
« on: Feb 25, 2019, 02:57 am »
I was recently offered an SM job for a 7 week contract. The stipend offered was $200-$500 and no housing.

I would be commuting an hour for rehearsals so I asked about the possibility of a higher stipend. I just heard back that they cannot offer a higher stipend and that they couldn't hire me. I am unsure what to do.

If I offer to do the position for less then what I asked for I will lose money but since I have mostly worked for one company I am concerned with expanding my resume and am not currently booked for those weeks.

Does anyone have advice on if I should walk away from the opportunity or email back and say I can do it for less?

These emergency kit bags are a good option. They have tons of pockets and removable parts.

How about for staged readings? Is there a standard for that?

Employment / Sources for job listings
« on: Nov 29, 2018, 08:30 pm »
Does anyone have any recommendations for where to find job listings (for SM, ASM, run crew, overhire etc.)

I've been lucky enough to get most of my jobs since graduation through a chain of connections so I'm not super familiar with where to look for listings.

Thanks!

I've been ASM before but this is my first SM gig so I have a bunch of questions about tech.

1. Can someone walk me through what my role is during a spacing rehearsal?
2. I know I need to do a safety walk of the theater what all should I make sure to point out?
3. Can someone walk me through running a cue to cue/wet tech

Any other advice would be greatly appriciated

The Hardline / AEA breaks during run throughs?
« on: Sep 23, 2018, 01:41 pm »
Im working with a director who thinks that we don't have to take breaks during run throughs in rehearsal. We are on a SPT 3 contract. I cant find any rule that says that. Our show runs an hour 45 with no intermission and we have AEA actors who never leave the stage. We arent in tech yet so these aren't dress rehearsal runs.
Does anyone know if there is a rule that allows us to not take breaks during runs?

If your a non AEA stage manager your supposed to leave the room too right? Do you just have the actors let you know who was elected?

Hi I'm a fairly new SM here. The props designer on the show I'm working on just asked me for a rehearsal scene breakdown. I've made a character scene breakdown and have a rehearsal schedule but she is wanting to know what scenes we will be working on when. How does one go about creating that? Is that something the director and I would create together?
