The Green Room / Re: Superbowl Half-Time Stage Set-Up
« on: Feb 03, 2015, 09:06 pm »
Live Design Online also has several postings with various plots, breakdowns, designs from events not only including the latest super bowl.

Here is a link to the lx plot and credits from this year's halftime show: http://livedesignonline.com/super-bowl-xlix-2015-halftime-show/lighting-plots-and-credits-super-bowl-2015-halftime-show

But a cursory search on the site for any major event (Oscars, Tony Awards, ect.) will return results as well.

Now that I've adopted a clear clipboard, I'll never go back.

I keep whatever I'm working on on the clipboard, but a schedule or contact sheet goes at the bottom of the clipped papers so that I can always see it through the back. It's like having two clipboards in one!

And for those of you who work with music stand lights (operas and musicals, usually), check this out:
http://www.kliplite.com/Cordless%20KLIP-LITE.html
These cordless clip lights are awesome, and can even clip on the top of a clipboard. Now I can grab my stand and dash upstage without tripping over or tearing out wires (used to happen often...)

An alternative method to this I have adopted is to scotch tape a sheet protector to a regular clipboard. Cut off the white 3 hole part and tape three closed sides, and presto!

Now, if it can fit any/all gaffee/spike tape sizes, then I would consider spending the $200 on it.

They sell a set of three different size adapters for $18, I haven't tried them so I can't speak to their effectiveness, but I can't imagine it being horrible.

The Backstage Guide to Stage Management by Thomas A. Kelly. Make sure you pick up the 3rd edition, it's the book that I was taught out of at school. There is an appendix at the back with great examples of paperwork to boot.

Also a second to SMMeade's nomination of the Backstage Handbook. I take book of these books with me to each gig.

I use this stuff to mark cuts in opera scores. It is a good combination of permanent and removable for me. Plus you can write on it like a post it note, which is always a plus

Hi Jempage. I think the software you're thinking of is called CamTwist (http://camtwiststudio.com) but if it isn't it should be able to do what you described.

Hope this helps.

Here's a link to another article about internships at Sleep No More

http://www.ibtimes.com/former-sleep-no-more-interns-say-immersive-nyc-megahit-offers-little-educational-benefit-1499418

I also agree with maximillionx's teacher and it's something I wish my teachers pushed more, the concept of getting paid what you're worth. I'm in my last year at a conservatory training program and I think reaching for a paid position will be more beneficial in both the short and long run, for both money and experience. I don't want to arbitrarily limit myself to only internships because I'm "new".

Thanks everyone, after some convincing (and a quick test in the closet in the room), turns out we can just good ol' spike tape. I'll keep all these other options in mind for the future though!

Hi all,
Slight conundrum that I have found myself in. Moving into a new rehearsal space, the Senior Department Administrator (don't ask), said we can't use spike (the traditional cloth backed stuff) on their new floors because they don't want to ruin the finish. I've looked through the other forums here and have found suggestions to use other tape (ETape, Painters, Artist's Drafting tape), but haven't really found any completely different options (i.e. not tape), which is what I'm looking for to present as alternatives.

I have though of/had suggested to me using a large piece of carpet to mimic the shape of the (very odd) deck, and Tyvek (the building wrapping stuff). I'm looking for other experiences/options. Thanks in advance!

The Green Room / Re: Sleeping in your theatre
« on: Mar 13, 2013, 09:41 pm »
The couch in the stage management office at my school has the infamous reputation of eating hours of your day. Many of the stage managers here, myself included, have been late to class (or completely missed class) because we had laid down for a "ten minute nap" only to wake up three hours later.

The bed on stage (if there is one in the show that's currently up) is always pretty comfortable too, but that's only an after rehearsal/during the middle of an all nighter option.

My university just cancelled all performances for tonight, it's a rare situation when this occurs. We had a tech for a show muddled up by Sandy too, makes for some interesting times and fun stage management stories of being stuck in theaters with no power.

Hi All,
I'm looking for a digital copy (editable or not, no preference) of Legally Blonde (the MTI version, idk if there is any other).

Please pm me for my email address, thanks!

The Green Room / Re: Things Stage Managers Say

"Don't lick the props."

Don't lick the actors . . . I HAVE GIVEN THAT NOTE.

A stage manager I was working with once had to give a note that went "Don't SPIT on the other actors please"

29
Does anyone have an editable version of Two Gentleman of Verona and a standard pdf version of Merrily We Roll Along (MTI version).

Totally agree dallas,
I wish I had more time to walk around the home depot, staples, and target that are right next to each other right down the road from my school. Can anyone say stage management paradise?
