ACTORS' EQUITY LAUNCHES CURTAIN UP FUND TO GET MEMBERS ON THEIR FEET FINANCIALLY; ISSUES CHALLENGE GRANT TO THE ACTORS FUND

"Actors' Equity Association, the national labor union representing professional actors and stage managers in live theatre, has announced the creation of the Actors' Equity Curtain Up Fund, and issued a grant to The Actors Fund to provide emergency support for members at risk due to work cancellations resulting from COVID-19. Actors' Equity is contributing $500,000 to launch the fund and will match another $250,000 of contributions from other donors, dollar for dollar."

Starting a thread for resources available to artists, related to the COVID-19 crisis.

TheatreWashington is extending their "Taking Care of Our Own" emergency fund for theater artists to include those impacted financially by the COVID-19 health crisis. They are offering $500 grants to impacted artists- applications are available on their website. You can also donate to the fund on their webpage.

You might also find out that the theater is willing to pay or provide the sub themselves....not always the case, but it does happen. As has been mentioned, they may have someone they prefer to call in, but it never hurts to have a name in your back pocket of someone you know is available.

The Green Room / The Year of the Stage Manager
« on: Jan 30, 2020, 09:50 pm »
For those on Instagram, I highly recommend following "sminsta2020" - it's an account that has a different stage manager take over every day and gives a look into their work and lives. So many great stage managers featured, including a number of SMNetwork members!

It seems that there's a very active group on Facebook for the Year of the Stage Manager 2020 as well. :)

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: rehearsal spaces

Larger theatres, universities, churches, community centers, high schools (particularly if you rehearse in the evenings/weekends). If you have some way of being mutually beneficial to each other that can help- donate theater tickets to a school auction, advertise a business in your program, etc.

Sometimes putting out into the community that you are having trouble finding affordable space will yield results. Ask other small companies in the area where they rehearse!

I make mine in Word (or an equivalent like OpenOffice). I use the underline feature to create a straight line from the cue word to the side of the page, then I use a text box to write the cue itself. I also put a box around the cue word (or note).

I find it's generally easier to tech with a pencil and paper, and transfer the cues during down time, so that I'm not holding up tech. Once I'm done, I save it as a PDF so that things don't get messed up the next time I open the file. And, I print a hard copy to call off of- don't want to have a computer failure mid-show! :)
