Seriously?

I'm with you my friend-- I've been at this for 26 years- 15 as an SM and have never seen it either- at any level of school or community and certainly not professional.  :-\

I got CPR/ First Aid certified while I was in college- and it helped me secure a job as a camp counselor!

I like to see that folks KNOW CPR/ 1st aid-- but I'd never not hire someone because they weren't...

I always write LGT, SND, FX, PYRO, RAIL, DECK....

and I say exactly that!

I'm a holdover for colour-coding and such, as well.

Wait- how does it risk the dancers' safety to use spike tape?

Really...?

I've been working in dance since 1982 and spike tape has never been a problem. If they trip on spike tape--- well I have no comment.

It is much, much, much more of a risk to use any kind of paint on a marly floor- because even if it will wash off- what kind of cleanser are you using? Many many many cleanser's will damage your floor.

I beg of you by all that is decent and holy contact your floor manufacturer before you put any kind of paint on your marly! Discuss the repercussions of both the paint and the cleanser!

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Creating Paperwork
« on: Jul 02, 2007, 09:26 am »
My experience at the Race was that it depended on the ASM.... Not be all braggy- but I was better at the paperwork stuff than the typical asm's they had. SO I did most of my own paperwork when I was an asm. BUT- I think I was an exception. As I recall the traditional ASM's at the Race were more actor's who weren't in the show or other friends of the organization....

Oops... I'm how rumor's get started... Christopher Stasheff is in no way dead.

He actually teaches radio and television at the University of New Mexico, at least wikipedia says he does.... And those Starship Troupers were publishes in the early 90's- while I was in HS, so maybe I remember them as being better than they are....  :-\

72
Yup... it petered out after 3...

And... maybe Christopher Stasheff died? I'll have to google.

73
ummm.... I think the Sci Fi theater book is a series called STARSHIP TROUPERS by Christopher Stasheff... and I liked it quite a lot.

The Green Room / Re: SMs in media?

My very fave is Polly? Penny? from Noises Off... Which I've done a few times... Please read on for funny anecdote:

I was SMing Noises Off, and of course had a ridiculous and hideously large prompt book- and one day I was reading a note as I was walking into the rehearsal studio and, of course, tripped and the book literally went flying. It was terrifying and hilarious. There were pages everywhere... and it took me hours to get everyhting back together.

So, our actress added that "bit" to her character... as well as having a million pencils in her hair which is again me all over and soemthing I didn't notice she added until very far into the process, and also, as an homage to another friend on this network, wore a stopwatch around her neck.

 ;D  ;D  ;D

Gotta love the Human Race!
