Thank you very much. I'll be getting in contact with you within the next day or so via email with some questions. I really appreciate the help!

Hello All!
I am a junior in high school currently working on a research paper/project and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in being interviewed (via email) I need to have at least one interviewed source, and I'd love to be able to interview someone who has been in the industry for a while. It doesn't really matter if the person I interview is equity or not, as long as you have quite a bit of experience. If anyone would be interested in this, please let me know. It shouldn't take very long and I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
Mitch

I'll fourth it! I just read it for a research paper that I Am working on, and it presents the information in a wonderful and easy to utilize way. Definitely worth the read. Even if you just borrow it from the library. I think I am going to go out and buy it for future reference, and return my library copy.

Stage Management: Other / Re: School productions.

I have to say that this is a very interesting project in my opinion. When all is said and done, will you perhaps post a recap of how you dealt with all of the issues that came up?

It sounds like you have a good setup backstage, so I would use it. I have only ever called from a booth, as our facilities at school do not easily allow the show to be called from the wings. You've got the CCTV and a view of the stage, so go with it from backstage.

Hello all

22
Whatever schools you narrow yourself down to, go to the college to visit.  I was highly interested in one of the colleges that someone has mentioned on this board, and when I went there I got a completely different feeling about the place.  (Shoddy production values, non-friendly students, etc.)  I eventually was accepted into their program, but I didn't choose them.

Erin, which school was this if you don't mind me asking

Thank you all for your responses. This has always been something that has interested me, as I have wanted to know what other areas a SM could work in, utilizing some of the same skills that are used in the theater SM area.

Hey Mitcha ~

I saved an article about this very thing awhile back.
If you'd like, send me a private email and I'll attach it.
Thanks! I emailed you. I look forward to reading the article.

Stage Management: Other / Stage Management-TV?

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone here has had experience as an SM on a TV show. I see stage manager(s) listed in the credits on a range of shows from sit-coms to talk shows, and I have been wondering what all a stage manager is responsible for in the TV world. Any insight?

Just link to her site. No need for permission! It's free advertising for her site. It'll get the word out, so I can't see why she would object!  :)

I am currently putting together a production analysis (page by page..the scenes are too long to do it by scene) and certain props are referenced multiple times within a few pages in the script. Should I list them multiple times in my props column of my analysis? What I have been doing so far is putting everything that is referenced per page into the appropriate column. That way when I go to do my prop plot and other paperwork later I have the most information to be working with. Any opinions?

Employment / Re: stage management college degrees
« on: Jul 30, 2006, 11:39 am »
I have just finished with a BFA in stage management, and I think it was one of the most helpful things out there for me. Note the  "for me". I was able to work in all capacities (PA, ASM, SM) on a very wide and diverse range of theatre. And sming large theatre for the first time is a little less scary with a saftey net! I was also lucky in that my school is associated with a major theatre company where the advisors for the majors also worked. I have also left school with a large social network of other students whose plans are also in the professional relm. Obviosuly being a BFA pushes me to the pro side... why would I have stayed all four years and be horribly in debt if I didn't think it made me a better stage manager. But thats just me...
Out of curiosity, what University did you get your degree from?
