I'm the new PSM for TheaterWorks in downtown Hartford, CT. It's an SPT 10 theater and generally produces straight plays with the occasional small musical. I've spoken with management and I'd love to offer up an open-ended Operation Observation throughout the upcoming season. In addition to observing you might be given an opportunity to become an Intern with the company later in the season. We're always looking for new people to intern as an ASM, backstage crew, or even set-building.

If anyone is interested, please send me a PM and we can set something up.

Current production of The Seafarer runs through December 28th.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

The Hardline / Staged Reading in NY
« on: Jul 27, 2008, 04:03 am »
So I'm doing a Staged Reading in NY and have never done one.  What does a SM do at these besides call the breaks?  Are cues involved?  A 1/2 Hour call?  Do I have to schedule an AEA business meeting?  Anything anyone can help me with?  Much appreciated!

I'm emailing Equity too but who knows when they'll get back to me.

The Hardline / Off-Broadway Rep?
« on: Apr 14, 2008, 09:50 am »
Does anyone know the Business Rep for Off-Broadway?  I haven't done a lot of NY work lately and need to schedule a AEA meeting for a new show starting rehearsals next week.  Just wondering if anyone knows who I should callfor that.

The Hardline / Is there a standard Percentage?
« on: Mar 17, 2008, 12:17 pm »
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a standard percentage that Stage Manager's made over Actors in the AEA minimums?

I've got one actor that seriously doesn't get along with the director.  To the point of yelling and telling my director that they need to learn to work with "older, more experienced actors."  Honestly, the actor isn't very good.  The director would love to have them replaced but the company doesn't have Just Cause.  It came to a head last night when a 5-10min tirade took place towards the end of the rehearsal day.  The director does a good job of trying to remain calm and has a steady voice while being yelled at.

So what do you do when an actor starts yelling at the director and telling them to "sit there and let us act"?

The Hardline / COST Contract questions
« on: Oct 19, 2007, 12:30 pm »
I've just been hired on a COST contract and don't know a lot about it.  I've worked mostly LORT and SPT contracts before.  Has anyone here worked on them before?  I'm mostly curious about the rule regarding Housing and whether part of it comes out of my check.  This isn't a Touring Production.  I've also emailed AEA to see what they say.  Thanks!

My friend just sent me this new clock.  It calculates AEA break times, has 2 stop watches, and has a regular clock.

http://www.geocities.com/willpickens/

Go to this site and click on Flash Projects and select Megawatch.

From there click on the Megawatch title above the image to find the download page.

You can also use the Flash Clock that's on that page but I prefer having the actual file running off my PC.

Sorry I don't know if it works on a Mac.

The Hardline / Costume Fitting Question
« on: Jan 30, 2007, 12:05 pm »
I'm running on 5.5 hour days under our rule book right now.  To schedule costume fittings then I need to give the actors a lunch after their costume call and prior to rehearsal (if I can't get the fitting within rehearsal hours).  If an actor prefers to give up their lunch in order to not have to come in an hour earlier, is that ok?  i.e. rehearsal starts at 12:00.  Costume call would be 10:00 with lunch at 11:00 for that actor unless they prefer to come in at 11:00 and forgo their lunch.

Make sense?

The Hardline / LOA-NYC Rulebook?
« on: Jan 09, 2007, 03:00 pm »
Does anyone know which rulebook this references?  I can't find it listed on the AEA website.  Closest thing I found was that it's affiliated with the Off-Broadway contract.  I just wanted to make sure that was the rulebook it followed.  I've got an interview with one of the companies tomorrow and wanted to prepare.  Thanks in advance.

Employment / Websites
« on: Jun 02, 2006, 07:29 pm »
Anyone here have a website?  I'm looking at getting one up and running for my resume and such and was just wondering if other people here had them.  I'd like to get some ideas.  I've seen plenty of Actor websites but never really looked at one for an SM.  If you have one - can you provide a link?  Thanks.

SMNetwork Archives / dressing/prepping for SM interviews
« on: Aug 04, 2005, 09:02 am »
Wasn't sure where to put this but I've got an interview coming up.  I haven't been on an interview for an SM position in a long time and I've never interviewed for an AEA SM position (promoted from within a company each time).  My question is this: what is appropriate attire for an interview in theatre these days?  Would a suit be beneficial or just look silly?  It hadn't occured to me until someone asked me if I had a suit.  Before then, I had just been planning on a button down, tie, and slacks.  For those of you running interviews, what do you suggest?  For those that have been on interviews, what do you wear?  Thanks.
