"Because the bottom line is that life is short, and you owe it to yourself to spend the majority of it giving yourself wholly and completely to something you absolutely hate, and 20 minutes here and there doing what you feel you were put on this earth to do."

I'm hearing echoes of the day-job conversation...

"In the game, which is currently in development, the player is allotted certain digital assets -- costumes, props, sound and lighting cues -- with which to create a virtual scene from Romeo and Juliet.

The player earns points for successful staging it, and can then unlock new assets, as well as new stages, “levelling up” from the Studio Theatre all the way up to the Festival Theatre."

The Green Room / Side Gigs
« on: Jan 22, 2013, 10:54 pm »
So not only did I finish my first day of tech today, I also found out I booked my first hand-and-foot-modelling gig. Yes, really. An actress I worked with suggested I submit to a friend of hers' agent, since I wear a size 5 and have high arches (apparently ideal for shoe/foot modelling). And I booked a gig! I'll be working with an artist in NZ, sending her photos of my hands and feet for an art class, and paid per batch of photos. Especially great, since I can do it fairly quickly in my off hours. Anyway, nice new weird side gig.

I have also been an undercover shopper! I've once or twice been paid to get a massage. Perfect. :)

So, what are your side gigs, if any? How else do you make money, using your SM skills or not?

« on: Jan 06, 2013, 12:31 pm »
What's your new years resolution (if you're into that sort of thing)?

Mine: eat breakfast every morning. Most important meal of the day, starts your metabolism, etc etc....but I rarely eat it.

Stage manager's report from Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf?

Link goes to part 1 of the 4 parts up right now. I especially liked reading about how they dealt with Sandy.

The Green Room / What are you thankful for?
« on: Nov 21, 2012, 10:39 pm »
Obviously this is Thanksgiving-inspired, but hopefully international folk will chime in too.

Personally, I'm thankful for working with great people, some really exciting contracts coming up, gaining health insurance, my long-distance relationship no longer being long distance, and my family and siblings cleaning my apartment and doing some decorating/organizing while I've been at work!

Tools of the Trade / Online Venue Search & Rental Tool - NYC
« on: Sep 15, 2012, 02:04 pm »
(Unsure if this should be in "Regional" or "Tools"- move if you see fit!)

Fractured Atlas has the beta up of a their online rental system. You can specify the date(s), what you need the space for, any amenities (wifi, mirrors, etc) and you can sort results by price and neighborhood. I was playing with this yesterday and found it very helpful.

Bonus: booking some of these venues online earns you an additional 10-20% off.

Moderator note: revised subject line for added clarity since this will be a sticky post. -kmc307

The Hardline / AEA Staged Reading Contract?
« on: Sep 07, 2012, 11:29 am »
I'm looking for the AEA Staged Reading contract on the Equity website but I can't find it. I have found the Staged Reading guidelines, but while they only reference it as a contract with more hours (and say that it in turn references the Off Broadway contract). Anybody have it? Or am I just totally misreading/misunderstanding the guidelines?

The Green Room / Show me your mugs! (Or water bottles)
« on: Aug 20, 2012, 02:38 pm »
Since every SM I know carries one (or more).

I just got a bodum travel mug and it has changed my life.

It's a mini french press! I even cold-brewed coffee in it when it was sweltering outside.

I do need a new water bottle though, as mine has gone missing.

The Green Room / DISCUSSION: Edward Marston's THE QUEEN'S HEAD
« on: Jun 01, 2012, 09:08 am »
Alright folks, here's your space to discuss the first book of the Nicholas Bracewell series, The Queen's Head.

(For those who missed it, Edward Marston has written a series of detective novels centered around a British stage manager.)

Goes without saying, but there will be spoilers in this thread!
