Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences is soliciting resumes for the following position on upcoming tours: (Non-Union) Wardrobe/Props Supervisor with COVID Safety Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Wardrobe/Props Supervisor include, but are not limited to:
1.       Loading and unloading of the truck, assisting in the set up/strike of the set, and directing road cases to stage/truck in proper order.
2.       Setting up/strike of the prop tables and costume racks, unpacking and setting up all props and costumes during load-in.
3.       In coordination with the Stage Manager, assigning and setting up dressing rooms in each venue.
4.       Supervising and training local wardrobe personnel during the load-in, performance and load-out.  In conjunction with local crew, acting as a backstage dresser during each performance.
5.       Managing the backstage area during the run of the show, facilitating any prop hand-offs and helping the Sound Supervisor/ATD in the case of a sound-related problem.
6.       Laundering or overseeing the proper laundering of costumes. Timely maintenance/repairs of the properties and costumes.
7.       Serving as a truck driver and, when needed, maintaining all applicable paperwork (driver log, trip log and vehicle condition report).
8.       Providing COIVD Safety duties for the tour. Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining KC COVID protocols, including mask usage and weekly testing for a company of ten.

Compensation for this position is $750/week plus per diem and housing when on the road. The start date for our next tour is January 11th, 2022, and the expected end date is April 10th, 2022. Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences is holding virtual open call interviews, and there are dedicated times for DC-area stage managers, ASMs, and production assistants. These interviews are not for any specific positions in our upcoming season, but we'd love to get to know you for future stage management needs. Please note that most of our productions (other than tours) are local to Washington, DC.

More information can be found on the website, including how to request access accommodations and how to request a time slot. Stage managers should include a resume - no headshot needed.

The Green Room / Free online courses!

So many universities are offering free online courses right now! There's a list here of courses offered by ivy league universities- there are some really interesting-looking "intro to opera" courses that might appeal to stage managers. There's also a section on "personal development" courses, including one on communications skills.

Hoping this might be interesting/useful for folks looking for things to do in the unexpected downtime....

Starting a thread for resources available to artists, related to the COVID-19 crisis.

TheatreWashington is extending their "Taking Care of Our Own" emergency fund for theater artists to include those impacted financially by the COVID-19 health crisis. They are offering $500 grants to impacted artists- applications are available on their website. You can also donate to the fund on their webpage.

The Green Room / The Year of the Stage Manager

For those on Instagram, I highly recommend following "sminsta2020" - it's an account that has a different stage manager take over every day and gives a look into their work and lives. So many great stage managers featured, including a number of SMNetwork members!

It seems that there's a very active group on Facebook for the Year of the Stage Manager 2020 as well. :)

Theater Alliance is in need of a non-AEA ASM for BLOOD AT THE ROOT, directed by Raymond Caldwell.

Rehearsals begin 1/22.
Tech begins 2/17.
Previews begin 2/23.
Performances run 3/1 to 3/24. Please note that there are some student matinee performances.

POINTLESS THEATRE seeks an enthusiastic and organized individual to join our staff as Production Manager for the 2018-2019 season. The Production Manager works with upper management to ensure timely scheduling and planning of the production process, proper budget development, and supervision of artists and technicians. The position is directly supervised by the Artistic Directors and Deputy Director.

Production Manager is responsible for working alongside the Director, Artistic Directors and Technical Director to hire, contract and supervise technicians, stage management, designers and performers for each production. A successful candidate is proactive, and leads with a positive and supportive attitude. Being able to anticipate needs, problem solve resourcefully, and prioritize time sensitive tasks are essential strengths in this role.

Dates for the 2018-2019 season:
Show #1: November/December Rehearsals, January/February Performances.
Show #2: April/May Rehearsals, June Performances.

This position is paid hourly.

In light of the recent posts about burnout and taking time off, I'm posting about my own work/life balance experience right now.

I've been taking time off this past season because I had a baby last summer and have been staying home with him. I've taken a few short gigs, and found some work that I can do from home, but I'd like to be able to come back to stage management more in the future. For those of you who have taken time off, what have you done to stay on people's radar, and what steps have you taken when you do decide to come back?

So far, my strategy has been to take a few smaller gigs (sub positions, short runs, special events) and when I'm offered shows for next year, explaining the situation and letting potential employers know that I'd like to continue to be considered for future positions. But I'd love to hear how other people have approached this!

E-SCRIPTS READ ME:

Escripts are useful, and we are OK with you sharing the work you've done in digitizing scripts for stage management purposes.  However, it is a VERY touchy legal ground and as such we have some very strict rules that must be followed.  If we see repeated violations of these rules, we will have to put an end to the escript exchange.

OK.  Here's the rules.

1. If you (or your company) don't have the rights to produce a show, don't ask for the script.
2. You may only request copies of scripts here.  No audio.  No video.  Just escripts for use in setting up prompt books.
3. If someone asks for an escript and you have it, do NOT post it here publicly, nor admit here publicly that you have it.  Offer your copies by PM, email or instant message.
4. If you have received a script from someone, do NOT thank them publicly here.  Do not acknowledge that you have received it in the thread. Do not cross them off your list or edit your post to say, "Got it, Thanks!" Just leave it alone. Thank the sender profusely and eloquently off site via email, send them flowers & liquor, but do it off of the SMNetwork servers.
5. No unsolicited offers of e-scripts, please.
6. You may not request an e-script as your very first post to SMNetwork.
7. Posts more than six months old will be removed.

Thanks in advance for adhering to these rules. It will help ensure that we are able to keep hosting this exchange.
