Employment / Need advise dealing with new job
« on: Jan 19, 2012, 02:20 pm »
I'm the resident SM at a small community theater. This spring we are doing a very large musical. We are are working in conjunction with an Equity Theater that has a much bigger venue and funds. Anyway when they agreed to join forces they asked that their SM be used and our SM be placed as the Deck Manager. I have absolutely no problem with this seeing as how I've never worked for them or in their space. However, it has recently been said in passing that their SM will not be avail for rehearsals and will not be stepping in till right before Tech Week. So here are my questions...
Is this normal for the Deck Manager to do?
What should I expect to be paid?
The small theater I work for usually gives us a small stipend for SMing but I know the large theater actually pays their crew. I don't want to overstep but at the same time, I don't want to get stepped on. Any advise would be appreciated.
