Self-Promotion / Summer Stock
« on: Apr 16, 2016, 06:40 pm »
I'm going to be starting a college stage management/theater and design tech program in the fall. The school has a summer stock but it isn't necessarily student-exclusive. I applied to be an ASM for the theater a few weeks ago, but the PSM told me I had been wait-listed - all the positions were filled. Well, yesterday evening I got the email - I landed the job! I'm so excited to ASM for this program and this SM specifically - she was the one who helped me apply for the school itself! I'm completely stoked to be a part of this company!

The Green Room / College program audition Wednesday!
« on: Feb 07, 2016, 11:39 pm »
Wish me luck!! My audition/interview for the University of Northern Colorado Design Tech program is Wednesday! It's a really selective program but I think I have a good shot!! Any last-minute tips for what I should talk about/prepare?

Thanks for your advice everyone! I think I am going to send out reports anyway.

I'm a stage manager for a community theatre troupe in my hometown. Since it's a small company, most issues and discussions are handled directly, somewhat nullifying my position as a hub of communication. I offered to make up/send out rehearsal reports after each rehearsal, and the director said he didn't think they were very necessary. Without my record of rehearsal reports, I can very easily lose track of a note and miscommunicate. Should I make the reports, but not send them out? It feels redundant to just make them for myself.

Introductions / Wait, you're my SM?
« on: Dec 03, 2015, 07:47 pm »
When I e-mailed one of the directors in my company about a script and tentative schedule for the show I had agreed to SM last summer, his first response was "Oh, you're my stage manager? We're auditioning in a month. I'd love to have a production meeting soon!" Turns out the producer either didn't tell the director, or she did and the director forgot. This show could use a dose of classic stage manager organizing!
