Job Postings / Re: Dubai Gigs
« on: Dec 29, 2016, 04:12 am »
I am currently working here at Dubai Parks and Resorts- I can confirm that the pay rate is much lower than one would expect and there are several issues that have popped up as an employee here. Dubai itself is great, I have no problems with the area at all. Message me for more details, as I have been warned off posting too much on this forum.

Employment / Re: Finding jobs for when I graduate
« on: Feb 14, 2015, 01:04 pm »
Hey- I found a great website when I was looking for apprenticeships/fellowships, I don't know where it came from but I'm applying to most of these.

https://sites.google.com/site/theatrejobdatabase/full-season-work/stage-management

As you can see, they have lists for any aspect of theatre, whatever you want to do. Now, this isn't really employment, per say, but I graduated a year ago and have been unable to find work so I believe an experience like this will really help you.

Get on it quick though, most deadlines are March 1st.

Also, I found this site that lists out production companies that do summer stock theatre,

http://www.cengage.com/resource_uploads/static_resources/0495898074/24674/summer_theatre_companies.html

so find your area or where you want to go and look.

Also, OffStagejobs.com is a site where a lot of work is posted, but I have yet to hear back from anything I have applied to on that site (and I have been applying for the last 8 months to anything and everything I can find)

See, my professors and university was less than helpful in this process, so I had to do a lot of this finding on my own. Hope this helps a little bit!

Same with Baz-

After talking with Miso, he did specify that speaking Mandarin is pretty much mandatory even though it doesn't specify on the website

Ok I have a bit more information after the interview...

There are per diems, they do have them for travel days, etc. just like normal tours. It just wasnt specified on the website.

Travel and everything is covered, and no its not a straight tour where I leave for 6 months, it's short little bursts where I leave on Thursdays and come home Mondays. For this being my first tour, I think this might be a little better for me?

Because of this I think the "hidden" costs Mac was talking about wont be a problem, since I'll be able to come home for a few days.

Does anyone else have any advice for me?

I'm just new to touring and am not totally sure how all this works! Thank you for all your help!

Hello...

I have a pretty standard question, although I can't find a previous answer to this question on the forums. What is considered "good" pay for touring gigs? What can you really live on?

I have an interview today with a dance competition company who is going on tour for the next 6 months all over the US. They pay for a place to stay, but as far as I can tell, you don't get a per diem, and they pay anywhere from 30$ (travel day when flying), $60 (for load in), to $125 (for show days, and this is the maximum base salary).

I've never been on tour, but I have plenty of friends who have. As far as I can tell, per diems are pretty standard, so I think it's odd that this is not covered. And the salary, to me, seems low, but I have no base idea on this kind of thing.

I was originally considered for an SM position, but have now been shuffled into interviewing for a different position which is nothing like stage management, but still gets me the touring "experience" I need for my resume.

Does this seem like a good gig? Or should I hold out for an actual SM position that may pay better?

Any and all advice would be welcome, I'm just trying to start my career and finding it very difficult to do.

Introductions / Re: Introduction to Me!

Hi Maribeth, thank you for the warm welcome!

I have considered internships, but unfortunately am finding it hard to be considered for them since I am no longer a student. I considered re-enrolling in order to finish my minor, but found that it wouldn't help as I am supposed to be seeking a degree in Theatre in order to be considered for most if not all internships. I am applying anyway, however.

Also, yes I have worked as a production assistant on various occasions, both for film and theatre.
And no, my university is less than helpful in that matter- I have plenty of connections outside of my university which have helped me get interviews so far.

Thank you for directing me to the employment board, I will peruse that and see what I can find.

Thanks again!

Introductions / Introduction to Me!
« on: Dec 16, 2014, 05:09 pm »
Hello, my name is Jenna Clarke. I am a recent graduate of UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada. I generally work on community productions for various companies, and have been for the last 8 years, although I also have experience working as much as I can in college productions as well.
I am joining this network in order to learn as much as I can from seasoned professionals, as I am finding it rather hard to break into the "professional" circuit here in Vegas. I've had more than a good share of interviews, but the answer is always the same- and always seems to be due my level of "experience", or as I'm told, lack there of.
