The Green Room / Re: Trivia Tournament II: Electric Boogaloo
« on: Mar 01, 2009, 12:03 pm »
I'm pretty sure I know why it says I took 24,978 seconds today. Late last night, I played the quiz, but when submitting my answers, I got an error page (they were doing maintenance; I'm pretty sure it was the month-end cleanup). I went and re-took the quiz just now, and I think it kept counting from my initial attempt last night.

So, lesson learned: On the last day of the month, don't play the quiz in the middle of the (US) night.   >:(

1) Have one. Love it!

2) I'll try that! We'll see if I can improve my time.

I just want to know how you guys answer all the questions so fast. I always seem to have the longest time on the scoreboard.   :(

Not sure how far afield you want to go with this, but:

Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers (ATPAM)
Dramatist's Guild
American Federation of Musicians (AFM)
The Broadway League (formerly The League of American Theatres and Producers)

and

League of Resident Theatres (LORT).

Is there an SMNetwork group on FB? We should create one if not!

There is.

I got the Stephen King set of questions; about the only thing that King has written that I haven't read is The Dark Tower Series. Of course, I got them all wrong.

Also, the Harry Potter question was horribly out of date. (It asked Rowling if there might be a Book Six.)

I've had to call "Standby poop" "Poop...GO".  Not my proudest moments.

Allison

You don't honestly think we're going to let you go without an explanation, do you?

Yes. One or two intermissions (3 acts) but it hasn't been decided yet. Thanks!

I am being encouraged by numerous people to not give breaks if the actors (two in particular) don't want them.

In our 2.5 hour show, about an hour consists of two actors onstage together (she's Equity, he isn't). Last night, she got very upset that I "interrupted" their scene "just" for a break. (I got this second-hand from other people -- she didn't tell me herself.) Should I talk to the producer about it? What should I do?

Can I get the theatre in trouble with Equity if I don't take the required breaks? (We're talking 5s and 10s -- not the hour lunch break.)

This is almost a moot point, as we open next Saturday, but it would be good to know for the future.

We may need to think out of the box as this effect just may not be possible.

Some playwrights must hate stage managers.

Employment / Re: When is enough enough

I took about a year off from '05 to '06 -- then I realized it wasn't SMing, it was the company I had done a show for (my first and last show with them).

I had an opportunity to SM a show at the college I had gone to through 2004, and "re-discovered" my passion for stage managing. Then, due to some personal issues, I wasn't able to do any shows for the bulk of this year, but I fell into a show just a couple of months ago. We open November 1 and I couldn't be happier.

Sometimes you just have to find the right fit. Sometimes you just have to take a break. Sometimes both.

There's a thread in the File Cabinet here for rehearsal report forms; browsing that section will also get you many, many other forms for SMing.

Thank you both. I was sure I hadn't missed it (reading the plan twice!) but it's good to hear from an authority.

The Hardline / LA 99-seat question (tech)
« on: Oct 07, 2008, 07:36 pm »
I'm working on a 99-seat plan show right now (with Extended Rehearsal and Performance). Tech is coming up and my Production Manager mentioned that we have more hours available for rehearsal during tech, what with the actors just "standing around being lit." I've read the plan (and read it again) and I can find nothing of the sort.

Help? Thanks in advance!
