My show opens soon and we have a no one to do tech. My school combined with another to do this poduction and we expected them to have "techies," they did....but sadly no longer do. As of now, I am running lights, two spots, and sound. Looks like I won't need to call cues.  :P

dancer-sm,

Maybe the question you're asking is something like "If I go be the lawyer I've always wanted to be, does that mean I never get to see the inside of a theatre again?"

That is my question. I mean I absolutely LOVE theatre, and I have always wanted to be a lawyer. I do not want to sacrifice either! I am going to try as hard as I can, if I fail at least I will be glad I tried.

The Green Room / Future

I am fairly young, BUT I am very very mature for my age. I have always had my plan set for after high school graduation. I have always believed I am meant to be a lawyer, but now since I have fell in LOVE with theatre, I'm not so sure. So I decided to compromise, while getting my basics I will get a degree in theatre then I will go on to law school.

All I really want to know is have any of you, or anyone you know gotten a degree in something that does not relate to theatre at all? Is it possible to carry on with theatre? I am very conflicted so any comments would be amazing.

Igive me their phones and other electronic distractions

that seems to be a little totalitarian to me . . .

With high school students, I'd do the same thing.

It's one of the things I'm required to do, also it keeps the actors' attention focused on rehearsals and not on their significant others.

I have a sign-in sheet everyday, but I'm in high school. As soon as people enter the room I have them sign-in, give me their phones and other electronic distractions, get changed, and wait on stage for rehearsals to start.

The Green Room / Re: Funding Shortage
« on: Jan 20, 2011, 03:57 pm »
Thank you so much for your advice, I'm glad I can just sort of vent my frustrations on here. I think the hardest thing about possibly getting cut is the chance of loosing all of my relationships. I'm just very very worried and hurt that my school won't give our department a chance even though  we just got a new, magnificient director to improve our program. I suppose if it does get cut I can go back to completely focusing on graduating early from h.s, and going to college sooner.

Again, I thank you for your advice, after all we stage managers have to stick together!  :D

The Green Room / Funding Shortage
« on: Jan 20, 2011, 02:10 pm »
My school has been greatly impacted by the economic problems. Now they are facing the possibility of cutting the arts program, including band, theatre, and art. Theatre has provided my friends and I so many privileges, so I don't know what I will do if it is cut. :( I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem and if so, how you handled it. If you haven't I would still really appreciate advice.

Thanks!

The Green Room / Suffering from what I call "theatredox"
« on: Jan 04, 2011, 06:43 pm »
I am currently experiencing what I call theatredox, which is the feeling of having nothing to do in between shows. Since finishing our musical I have felt like I have absolutely nothing to do since I am not at rehearsals every afternoon. I was wondering what you all do when you finish a show and are waiting for another one to start.

After working on a musical for over 10 weeks some of the actors still looked very uncomfortable and out of place while dancing.
Thus led to the use of  spazghetti.

Spazghetti--People who look like a spaz with extreme noodle arms while dancing.

We just had our first performance of Footloose and it was amazing! We pulled so much together in so little time! We as a drama department have benefited from our new director! I just thought I would share my great news! :)

I'm in high school, that alone means its almost impossible to get people to listen to me. We have a bucket for phones as well. My actors know my routine, sign-in then put your phone in the basket right beside the sign-in book. Well here lately they have decided to keep their phones on them. This causes many problems on and off stage. So I can definitely relate to the difficulties the phones cause! :)

10) Do what they ask of you. It is rare I ask my actors to do anything but when I do its because I need help. So if they do ask you to do something jump on it as soon as possible.

My director is also the speech teacher at my school. We have been watching Grease, and as my last speech I have to recite a monologue from the movie. Do any of you happen to know one I could do?
