Homework Help / Deadline February 1, 2011: Stage Mangement
« on: Jan 23, 2011, 05:42 pm »
Attending school at: Illinois State University
Instructor: Adam Fox
Training level: Undergrad
Project due date: February 1, 2011

Questions:
For my honor's project I am going to read a book that would be beneficial for a stage manager to read.  Other books we are reading include The 360 Degree Leader, Blink, Nudge, and The Backstage Guide to Stage Management.

I am looking for book suggestions to read that relate to the field.

The Green Room / Re: How do you "play?"

I too like the occassional geocaching.  And of course reading for fun (not classes or production) is a great way to spend my time.  Currently really big into Bret Easton Ellis.

Next semester my school is doing The Playboy of the Western World by John Synge and if anyone has a digitized copy I'd be really grateful.  I'd like to experiment with electronic prompt book.  My email is clpeek@ilstu.edu

Tools of the Trade / Re: Google Wave - SMNetwork Sandbox

I currently have Google Wave and I'd be very interested to be a part of this if it is still going on.  I haven't had a chance to see the full range of it.

Thank you all a bunch.  I definitely will be typing up a list with the different responsibilities!  I know I will be asking a lot of questions and I won't be afraid to ask him even though we are both new.

Again, thanks so much.

So I am very new to the field of stage management (i only recently switched my major and was given a title of SM).  My first full-length stage management job is for a show in our thrust space.

Since, I am in an academic setting my assistant stage manager is chosen for me and assigned the task.  However, I am somewhat worried because the ASM that I was assigned was the stage manager for my director this past semester.  There have been occasions (mostly noted from colleagues) that it was brought to my attention that this could produce some sort of a problem.  I was wondering if this is even a case for worry?

I have talked to my professor about it, but I would very much like to hear what some of your ideas are.  Is it necessary for me to say anything to my ASM?  Or is there anything I should do to prepare in case it becomes an issue?

I'm in my first year as a stage manager.  I have ASM'd once and am currently on my first SM job.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Mentorship Program
« on: May 27, 2010, 02:47 pm »
I would be super interested in a mentorship program.  Both as someone who is trying to get more knowledge into the career, but also as someone who knows how beneficial a mentor program can be.  I recently transferred into ISU and the mentorships they provide for incoming transfers was incredibly helpful.  Know I'm co-head of that committee and we have been realizing how many benefits there are in it.
