i suggest telling your parents that you'll a minor in a subject that relates to theater but is a little more marketable. (one of my friends had to do the same thing, but she's a little crazy and is completing a double degree. )

i got my parents to be a little more receptive to the theater degree when i told them i would get a minor in education. that way i could always be a teacher if theater didn't work out.

College and Graduate Studies / Help with resume
« on: Mar 13, 2008, 02:26 am »
I've just been asked to apply for honors in stage management and I need a resume quickly. The problem is that I have never created a resume for my stage management experience. Does anyone have any formats I should use? Is there an industry standard of some kind?

Thanks!!! ;)

Tools of the Trade / Re: [FAQ] What goes inside a SM Kit?
« on: Mar 01, 2008, 05:36 am »
I don't really have a kit. I have a camo jacket with lots of pockets that I swiped from brother years ago.

In all of thos pockets I carry pens, pencils, post-its, safety pins, paperclips, band aids, a pieces of tie line and whatever else I pick up along the way. I also have my leatherman and maglite on my belt. This way everything is on my person and I don't have to worry about actors getting into my kit if i'm not watching them closely. It works for me.

I always bake cookies or brownies. The homemade touch really seems to help.

Also everyone is more willing to overlook the mistakes of someone who brought in three dozen cookies. ;D
