Employment / Company Management
« on: Jan 11, 2009, 12:49 am »
Just wondering if anyone know of any permenant company manager or assistant company manager positions open anywhere. I'm looking to take the next step in my career and would love to possibly find something in that field. If you know of something, I'd love to hear about it weither I be qualified or not because it may just help me figure out what I need to do to get that kind of position later in like. Anywhere in the world is fine. I have ties on the east and west coast.

Thanks in advance for any help!

... the actor that offered to pick me up dinner because she knew I wouldnt eat otherwise... and then refused to get me chips and a soda because yogurt and water is healthier. (She knew I'd have no choice but to eat it!!) Gotta love the ones who looks out for us.

... the actors that said "thank you" and meant it.

... the actors that actually took the time to get to know me even thought I'm only the intern.

I've got the Motorola Q and I love it!!

If you want a windows mobile phone and have a mac, all you need is a program called Missing Sync and it's all good to go. The program costs a 1 time fee but worth it.

Aaand you're not required to have a Data Plan if you don't want one as opposed to the Blackberry where you MUST have a plan (atleast on verizon). So when work is slow, you get rid of your plan and just pay if you use it.

This is also better for the environment since it takes less energy for the computer to produce black and darker colours as opposed to white/light colours. Google picked up on this and made a search engine like that has white on black.

http://www.blackle.com

Yeah but once you steer away from the search engine you're back in the same problem :)

what can you customize on it?

A former student at my school built 2 cue light training boxes. Its bascially a box with about 8 switches the corrospond a small red lightbulb right above it. Pretty each and cheap to rig up.

Completely outside of the Theatre world:  a friend called and asked my help for her wedding.  It was outdoors and the wedding party dressing area was a 10 minute walk from the ceremony area.  She (the bride) asked me to be on walkies to cue the wedding party when the guests had all arrived and cue the musicians when the groom's party was in view to start the wedding music.  They specifically asked me (as opposed to lots of other friends--mostly actors) because they knew I would stage manage their wedding just as efficiently as I would do any show.

damn! you stole mine! I was gonna say that you can stage manage a wedding!

SUNY Purchase, Carnegie Mellon, Rutgers, NCSA... Im sure I forgot a ton...

There are lots.

Shameless plug.

SUNY Purchase is a great conservatory located 30min from NYC. All of our teachers work there and the full time teacher has PSM'd several Broadway shows.

Feel free to PM me with specific questions about Purchase. I'm graduating this year and its been fantastic.

If you're going for an SM position, bring paperwork examples of paperwork you've done. A portfolio would be might bigger.

I don't think you should be bringing set designs or lighting plots unless they are going to as you to be a set designer or a lighting designer.
