I agree with every word smejs just wrote.

More than that - in Europe there is also Production Stage Manager;

In Italy it is closer to a Production Manager job - just that it includes also the SM work.

As for Production Manager, in Germany and Austria is closer to what smejs wrote.

In a way it is being the middle man between the Artistic Team, the Directors Office and the Stage Crew.

I believe that if you have future Jobs, (with a signed contract), I would put it on the C.V.

Part of it is to let the Company, to which you apply, Know when you are FREE. (or not).

Plus it is mainly good to show the same companies that have asked you to RETURN!
As it is being transltated as "He - she has done well with this company.

Dont put names of places that has not signed with you, (yet), as often people will check this information.

all the best,

I believe that Mac Calder has a good option, (which we have used in a prodcution); it is mainly good when the production tours to deferent theaters, or in a theater when you have deferent shows on the same period.

The Hardline / Re: Fight Captain Selection
« on: Oct 15, 2006, 06:18 am »
Even that your question was posted a month ago - I still hope my advice will help.

My career has two faces, Stage Manager and Fight Director.
(artistic director of Scuola Brancaleoni www.scuolabrancaleoni.com).

A fight Captain is normaly being picked by the F.D.
It is normaly the one who knows, best, the choreography.

The main point of having a Fight Captain is to make sure the fight is being done SAFE, (when the F.D is away - after he or she are done with the choreography).
This way the production will not face legal problems...

The best thing would be to give the fight Captain 15 minutes "fight call" before each performance, to warm up and Run through the moves with the cast.

This is when you talk about actors - who are mainly fighters. (not leads).

Sometimes when the F.D. is busy they call another F.D. to check the Fight Scenes.

It is not only to be safe! but to make sure it will look good and not "tired".

In Europe, choosing a F.D. is the job of the production manager together with the F.D. (or the Director).

Fight Captains are not Fight Directors! they do not choreogaph - they keep the fight scene safe and in good shape.

If you have any more questions - or looking for good people to do this line of work, let me know

Swords Up,

Ran

Employment / Re: Websites
« on: Oct 13, 2006, 03:37 am »
My website, does not includes a C.V.

My jobs are as a director - stage manager - fight choreographer.

Therefore, the website just gives a starting point for people to contact and request, (if this is the case), to receive a C.V.

It seems to be the easiest way, for me, as there is not really rush to update the website often and it does not comfuse people.

Therefore, in any case I believe, that making things simple but clear is the goal.

or at least this is how I feel about it this morning.

all the best,

Ran
