the only school on your list that i am at all familiar with is evansville. I applied there but they were one of the first ones crossed off my list so to speak. For me it was because they didn't make a good first impression (the department head especially came across as very arrogant - among other things) But that could have just been  me. What impression did you get of the school?

I personally go with a brand of marching shoes called MTX. I think they look much better (ie. less dorky) then Dinkles and they are amazingly comfortable and durable. The main reason that i switched over from tennis shoes is it's hard to find a decent priced pair of all black tennis shoes that are properly made so they don't kill your feet, legs, or back.

I am from the Chicago area myself (Bolingbrook to be precise) and recently went through the slightly overwhelming process of sorting through collages. I realized I was more geared toward liberal arts collages myself after looking at dozens (literally) of school. If you have any questions of just wanna talk shoot me an email at lstadick@iwu.edu.

And check out Illinois Wesleyan University and Millikin University if the idea of a smaller liberal arts school intrigues you.

Some thing to keep in mind is also the school itself. Do you want to attend a large state school or a smaller liberal arts school? Conservatory, B.A., or B.F.A program? There's a lot of possibilities and just because you've heard great things about the stage management program at one school doesn't mean it's the best fit for you.

What I came to realize when I recently went through the collage interview process was that the main thing there looking for is your potential. The interviewers (hopefully) realize that you don't have a lot of experience or training (that's is why your applying after all). With that being said, I think it is important to show not only your  best stage management work but also other work you've done be it designs for a show or even things from any art classes you might have taken in high school. Granted, I applied to BFA programs at liberal arts collages, so this might not be as true for other programs like conservatories. But I did get positive feedback for my choice to show a bit more versatility. I hope this is somewhat helpful to you.

I just wanted to thank all of you for your great suggestions. After much debate, I ended up at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL due to the advice of an alum who runs the company I had been working with. It's a great school and from everything I've experienced so far, a perfect fit for me. Because it's a small liberal arts school I get a good variety of classes outside of the theatre department. And even though the theatre department itself is rather small, the faulty are amazing and the amount of talent the students possess blows me away.
