I have been using Google Sites (and google pages) for about 4 years now for hosting Digital Callboards.  I would have to agree it is a lot easier for the cast if the information is pushed to them.  Whenever I move to a new venue they are often hesitant of using the sites but quickly change their minds.  Most recently I was in residency and therefore set up a master site for the entire season.

One of the easiest ways I found to push information was to set up the subscribe feature to my own e-mail then with filters and mailing lists it would automatically e-mail everyone on the mailing list.  The other way to deal with this problem is have members subscribe to the RSS feeds that google just started to host.

I do remember the problem about google calendars but got it working in the end, I will have to look to remember what I did.

If anyone has any questions or would like to check out my sites just send me a PM and I'll send you the links.

I was out with the seasonal flu, and it was only 5 days by doctor's orders.

You make a good point about consistency, I think it was just the icing on the cake for me.  It's frustrating being removed for something that was beyond my control and I was out for the safety of the cast.

I was hoping to get some other Stage Manager's opinions, I have always been very willing to share paperwork with people through the years because I know adapting paperwork is how I formed mine originally.  Recently though, I came across the first point of someone straight out copying my paperwork.  It happened while I was out sick with the flu, the production asked me to forward my paperwork so the assistants could work on paperwork while I was gone; when I notified the company that I was coming back, I was out for 5 rehearsals, they notified me that I was being replaced because of my illness.  I have since found out that they took the paperwork my assistants had been using and gave it to the new stage manager who has started using it as his own.

Any thoughts, when is sharing, not sharing anymore?

I would suggest looking at Rutgers, SUNY Purchase, and Depaul.  I went to Purchase for a little while, but eventually I ended up at Otterbein College, outside of Columbus OH.  I was like you I wanted to be in a Big City, I ended up very very happy at Otterbein, they have a very good program and it's very flexible.  I have also heard great things about Penn State.

I graduated from Otterbein College, If you would like to talk about their Program I wouldn't mind giving you some insight.  They are very easy to work with when transferring in and the program there was phenomenal I loved my time there!

I have both the cyber and the slimline single, I have used both for different types of situations.  I would have to say that for the shows that I've had to call from backstage it has been helpful to have the slimline single; the cyber has worked great for tech tables and FOH calling.  I did notice that they have a new headset, the eclipse,  which is similar to the clear com lightweight headset.

I guess my advice would be to figure out where you plan on using it more if it's backstage then the slimline is probably the headset for you.  I will mention that when I bought my headset the cyber wasn't that expensive and part of the reason why I ended up with multiple types

It's not listed on their website, when you call you can ask them for it.  They also have features like being able to have program feed go through the the headset.

I have consistently had a problem where people who have to get dressed or undressed for shows on stage can't do it, some how they get stuck in their clothes.

I always note my mistakes, as it was said, I would rather call out my mistakes then have someone else call them out.  I think it's also important to record everything; I've seen stage managers not record when they have made mistakes and to me that's lying to the rest of the production team, I have also seen Stage managers blame their mistakes on board ops and other and that is just WRONG.

My thoughts, I'm my biggest critic so I know when I don't do something correctly.

I haven't ever dealt with content management, but you have my curious I will have to look into it.  Google sites is very rigid but for most of my uses it has worked, there are always somethings though I would like to just tweak a little bit.  I have been studying up on my HTML coding so that helped on my most recent site, was able to take it beyond the basics that google outlines for you.

If you're interested in seeing what I've done here's the link http://sites.google.com/site/lppacproduction/
I am working in residency currently, last year I did a separate site for each show that I did, I found that excessive and felt that since I work with the same cast often it was an extra step for them to remember different sites.  So this year I unified the entire process and made a tech department website that breaks off to all the shows for the season.  This also offers any of the extra SMs hired to set up their own site.  My current show is The King and I, the other shows are as other SMs have made fooled with the site.

It doesn't come with the themes, they are all optional.  I have been using the beta for awhile of the new version, and I like it a lot and haven't notice it take up any extra resources (one of the things like like about google they give you everything need with little extras).  Have you done anything with google sites?  I keep complete online callboards, my cast loves them.
