Hey all you SMs out there.
I have a question that I need help answering.
I'm currently preparing to start rehearsals for a show where the set is a 40'wide by 16'deep staircase. 12 steps with a platform on the top. Our rehearsal space isn't consistent and we will have time rehearsing on the set, but how do I tape this out? Our rehearsal rooms are no where near as large as the stage, however how can I provide the best guidance for blocking purposes.
ANy advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Your prompt script should always be kept neat, organized and straight forward. I learnt this lesson well last year when I had the swine flu pretty bad going into tech, and decided to make my prompt script have clear instructions and legends just in case I couldn't call a show. Even though I ended up calling all the shows myself with the flu, It was a valuable lesson to manage my prompt script in a way that anyone on the show could pick it up and understand everything.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Internships in London
« on: Dec 18, 2008, 07:39 pm »
Hey Everyone!
I'm currently looking for internships in London for stage management and I'm having a hard time finding them on the internet. New York internships I can find in a second but London seems to be harder. I'm just wondering if anyone works in London and knows of some or even somewhere I can inquire about internships. That would be very helpful! Thanks!

Which one is it? Does it depend on the show?

Does anyone know the agreement/contracts that are used on Broadway?
Maybe even a link to the full agreement?
Thanks!

« on: Sep 21, 2008, 11:08 am »
I shadowed on a couple shows on Broadway this summer and it was the best thing I've ever done to help boost my career! I'm going back to New York this December to do more and I HIGHLY suggest anyone who is interested to do this!

Great explanation, I never knew that before!
So I guess to answer your question, yes you probably should have been called!!!

If one were to write a letter to a professional stage manager to come and shadow you...
what would you like to hear and what would make you really want to have me come and shadow.
i'm sending out a few letters and don't quite know what to say.
thanks!

Well in CAEA you need to Apprentice Stage Manage on a min of 6 shows for 2 different companies or 8 shows with the same theatre all during a 3 year period.

The link to all the information is http://www.caea.com/EquityWeb/EquityLibrary/Membership/TheRoadtoEquity.pdf

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Thoughts on ASMing

ASMing is actually amazing. I love being in on all the action on the floor during the performance. I've only ASMed 7 or 8 times because but every single experience was great!
