Introductions / Making myself at home
« on: Jul 16, 2015, 09:13 am »
I graduated this past spring with a Theatre BA (Design/Technical emphasis) from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF); my university didn't offer a stage management emphasis, but they did have me SM or ASM any show I had time for once I had proven myself canny backstage and in class, and the price was definitely right.  I also became a seasonal fixture at Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre (FST), and have stage managed three of their last four summer shows.

I only recently decided to put serious effort behind finding some good-looking stage management internships; I wasn't quite settled about what I wanted to do post-graduation.  I was torn between finding non-SM work in my hometown, and leaving to get started on what I now hope will be a life-long career.

In my last two semesters at UAF, I had to sit the required courses that take place during rehearsal time slots, so I didn't do any regularly-scheduled theatrical work for about a year (I did work part-time in the costume shop and in the box office though, and did the costume design for one show).  I ended my year-long SMing hiatus this summer, and I'm currently working on "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" for FST.  It has to be the best-cast show I've ever done, and with one of my favorite directors.  I think I have to give it some major credit for reminding me that, yes, I definitely do want to keep doing this.

I've been using SMNetwork casually over the last few years as a way to find answers to my questions and geek out about rehearsal/performance report formats, and it seemed like a good time to join.  I definitely intend to avail myself of the internship reviews, and I hope to add a few here soon as well!

It's nice to meet you, I expect!
