3) Be on book at all times. You never know when an actor will call 'line'

Ah yes. This job is to me by far the most boring thing ever and it is so hard to stay on track but it does help you become that much more familiar with the script. I pass it off to my ASM when I can if I have one or an actor who is doing nothing.

There is blame - no fire and pitchforks - but without responsibility - this problem will happen again.

I agree with this. Usually I tell all my actors to check their props and such before the show and if it is something like that i usually will hold the actor responsible and tell them it really shouldn't happen again. At least everything was fine in the end and the actor was able to cover it up. If my actors can cover up their mistake I compliment them on it but do my best to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm a high school SM as well and I think it depends on your theater and the director and the equipment you are using. I think it's a good idea to ask the director what they expect you to do or even other SMs who have worked with that particular director.

Any specific places? We got it online last time and we thought it would be good and it was the opposite.

Tools of the Trade / Where can I get good gaffers tape?

The last time I let someone get gaffers tape for me it was a super crappy not very sticky and not really gaffers tape. If anyone knows where to get good quality gaffers tape for cheap let me know but any good gaffers tape right now is welcome since it can come out of the tech budget. Thank you!

Hi everyone! This a super awesome site and it will certainly come in handy. I have been an ASM for 3 shows and I have been the SM for 6 shows and I'm a sophomore in high school. I'm in a small community theater and I've been in it for about 9 years. Thank you to everyone here for being willing to share your tips, tricks and experiences!
