Stage Management: Other / Film Assistant Director
« on: Nov 11, 2010, 04:24 pm »
Alright, so I figured I'd put this under SM: Other, hopefully that seems to fit for everyone. I've read some of the other boards that vaguely address this, but I wanted to reach out again and ask does anyone have more knowledge on what an AD does on a film? From my own research it's the closest thing to SM on a film, but probably more logistics planning than in theatre. Are there any books someone would suggest to read up on? I got a job as 2nd AD on a film, obviously the 1st AD will be a good resource but just wanted to see if I could get more info before I go to her (also we're in two different parts of the country, so no Starbucks meeting there).

Does anyone have I Stand Naked Before You by Joyce Carol Oats? A little bit obscure...Editable version would be lovely!

PM me, thanks!

I found one the other day that I thought was interesting but haven't really tried it out yet. It's called ShowTool SM and it has a Show Timer, a thing for Spike marks, check list, props list and then something to help send out emails. It looks pretty neat but again haven't messed around with it a bunch and it costs $4.99

Employment / Picking jobs

So I am in a dilemma. I absolutely hate the idea of backing out of a job but this is a difficult choice. Currently I'm an intern for an open run Off-Broadway show. They now want to hire me for their stage management track permanently so I would start out as props master/ASM sub with chance of moving up or moving to another show within the company maybe. Though here comes the problem, I committed to being ASM for another show at an OffOffBroadway Equity Showcase house. Now I would love to somehow do both, and the one show said they could cover part of the run but not all of the other show or it would be extremely difficult. I know the Off-Broadway show is a better job, long-term and paying while the other is a higher position but only a SMALL stipend for a month. How bad would it be to back out of the one show? I don't want to be "blacklisted" but this opportunity is just so good and again, paying.
