When looking for internships over the summer, I didn't apply to ones that had no housing only because I thought it would be harder to find and I wouldn't be making enough.  If you don't have housing, then you should perhaps look around the area see what it would cost to rent a house/apt/etc. and base your stipend off of that plus the cost of food, etc.

also plugging my school - SUNY New Paltz! I'm a senior there now so let me know if you have any questions!

College and Graduate Studies / Re: USITT Conference
« on: Nov 08, 2010, 08:04 am »
I've gone to the conference for the past 2 years.  The only things really related to stage management are the lecture sessions which have increased by a little (in my opinion) and there are some companies that will be do interviews during USITT or places where you can hand in a resume.  Other than that there are the grad school tables and like other people said lots of free stuff.  I also have an interest in the tech side so I find it worth it.  I also think it's really helpful just because there are so many people there and you can make connections.

I've heard they have a really good musical theatre program although I don't know much about their tech.

I put where people were entering and exiting from and found that to be very helpful.  I also had put in some, little blocking notes but I didn't end up really looking at them.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Production Management

I'm trying to get some more information on what a production manager actually does and how it compares to stage management.  Has anyone here made the jump to Production Manager?  Any advice would be appreciated!

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Shadowing: General Q&A

Really this is a  kind of stupid question, but here goes:

You don't usually buy a ticket for the show that you want to shadow, right?
Or do you?

sorry, I'm really interested in shadowing, I just haven't done it yet.

I bought one because I wasn't sure if I was going to shadow and because my family is going so I needed a ticket just in case.  And considering no one has gotten back to me it's a good thing I did.

About a week ago I had to buy tickets for a broadway show at the box office.  I wrote up a letter for the production stage manager and stage manager (1 each) asking if i could shadow them for the day I had bought the tickets for.  I included me cell number and email address.  I then gave this to someone at the backstage door.  I didn't ask to see them because when I was there it was about 1:15 and there was 2:00 show.  I haven't heard back from either one.  Just wondering if I should call and if so how do I go about getting the number? Should I call the box office and then I should ask for the PSM or SM? Thanks for the help!

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Internships
« on: Jan 26, 2009, 11:31 pm »

I've been looking for internships as well, but I've been applying to all over.  But if you get a subscription or if your school has one, artsearch is a great website.  It's www.tcg.org/artsearch.  If not I would just try googling different combination of words like texas summer internships.  There are so many out there.  However if you are only looking for a specific area, it might be harder.  There are a lot of internships that do provide housing as well as a stipend.  Just a suggestion.
