Tools of the Trade / How to make Pinocchio's nose grow?
« on: Mar 22, 2010, 09:58 am »
Hi to everyone. It has been a long time since I wrote here. I really do apologize. A lot of things happened in my life and I am glad to be back to my roots, which is theater. We're doing Pinocchio now in Guam, US and we are thinking of ways on how to make Pinocchio's nose grow onstage? Do you have any idea? The people of Guam will really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

Tools of the Trade / any suggestions for the "rain effect"?
« on: Oct 30, 2007, 02:38 pm »
Hi...In the current play that we're doing, we need to have a "rain effect". What we did before was, we used a pvc pipe with holes in it and connected it to the nearest water source and we also put a gutter at the sides of the stage where the water will fall to directly lead the water out of the theater building. Now that we're touring it, using the same device would be impractical.

What i had in mind is to use a clear cellophane and cut it into fine pieces and put it in a confetti cradle. once it falls from the cradle and sidelights hit it, it will produce a crystal effect from afar. My director is challenging me to think of other options. Are there any ways to do a rain effect that's applicable for touring productions? Thank u very very much. ;)

Employment / Re: Theatre CV

Since you are applying for a teaching job it would be helpful for the HR or interviewer if you'll put any teaching job you had or done or workshop facilitated. When I was asked to pass a resume for a theater arts instructor position, I had to list all the teaching jobs I did or workshops I had facilitated, what year, for what school/company. ex: Workshop Facilitator (2007), taught Basic Acting for Kids age 9-12yo at the Theater Arts Summer Workshop. something like that. They needed to gauge how much experience you already had in teaching and your field of specialization and the age bracket of your students :) goodluck :)

We usually hold an annual laboratory festival in PI. We've been doing that for 3 years already. The pay is not high but one thing that's good about it is that you'll get to handle one production. We usually have it by June or July. The schedule is crazy and usually you'll get to work with people who come from different theater organizations, so it's like really a getting to know thing while working. It requires a lot of patience and hard work but the fun and experience is worth it!  :)

Hi :) been long since i logged in. well as for me, when i had a musical with a cast of 150students (highschool and elementary students) i have my whistle, bell and megaphone. I told them during briefing that i use the whistle to cut a rehearsal or to tell something urgent. bell is used to tell them that it's break time. i ring the bell again to tell them break time is over. and megaphone is for telling them important announcement. they were very helpful to me esp. with a large cast and kids :)

hi to everyone!

hope you could help me with this. we have a current production, and our set is made of sand and gravel and stones. Im having problems in spiking because obviously any adhesive tape won't do because of the sand that's covering the whole floor. I can't use the stones in the area as markers because there are some dances/movements i don't want the actors to be tripped. i would appreciate your suggestions very much! thanks
