Tools of the Trade / Re: Two-way radios

For motoralas we have the cls series and they have been awesome. This series is a little pricier, but worth it since they are on the CRS frequency range. The advantage to CRS is that it is off the crowded FRS systems. You also get a larger area with the wireless signal. As for the beep I have had experience with many different types of radios, and on all of them the beep was a setting so check the owner’s manual.

SMNetwork Archives / Re: Emergency Forms

i am going to be sming a kids show, and was curious as to if it is necessary to have the form. The local school district has a forum that must be notarized, I was going to use that and modify the district name to the play company, but the producers told me they didn’t want to deal with the paperwork and worry of the parents getting it notarized

were you in a wierd or wierless system

the only thing that cell phones affect is the speaker in the headset. and thats only the radiation from that cell phone checking in and then the phone would have to be within a coulple of feet of a beltpack.
which is why we have a all cell fones off for all orduction crew

however the rf from a cell phone dosenot in any way interfier with wierless micks sine the wierless mic range is so high.

one of the other reasons for not blocking all signals is emergency signals, such as police medical and fire. many doctors will come to a show being on call, and need to get a call for emergency basis only.

one solution to this is a new paint. it has special micro wire in it so that it blocks wireless signal, it receives "power" from a copper wire and it can be turned on and off. it can also be selective to allow emergencies signals in as well as wi-fi or any signal you want.

i will post a web site soon

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / respect

Well, this last show I was the same age as the principals, but the chorus and extra parts were younger than me. I had no trouble with the kids and they were great, it was the kids that were in middle school and high school that were the biggest problems. They would break every rule that I had learned in working in other positions in other theaters. The high school kids would even curse out some of the adult leaders and have a flagrant disrespect for the rules set by the house and house staff.

Hi,
I’m 18 and have 1 show under my belt as sm. (but have worked under sound and lighting for some time) the last show I did was for a children’s performing group. One of the largest problems was respect from the performers towards me and the entire tech staff. Many would break the simple rule of just don’t touch a prop after many kind reminders.  The other problems are of them was the language, they would call staff names behind their backs and would cuss to their and my face, I had my asm walk because he was cussed out by an actor for some small little mistake. Now this is community/school theater so me, and my crew were volunteers, and the adult leaders of this group would laugh in my face when I brought up the behavior issue, “there just kids” (with my crew of similar ages were all professional). They have asked me to do other shows and I was curious as to what one would do to try and change this group?

Just be careful because that would, I think, block a radio frequencies, and so if you use wifi from an outside the building AP your staff wouldn’t get that signal, just as an example
What I’m getting at is that the dissension would need to be made about what type of house you are and what problems would be created just by my solving of one problem I could live with

Quote from: "mc"
you have wireless mics, wireless dmx and a wireless network. And the 2.4gHz spectrum (the location of the vast majority of wireless systems) is getting rather chockers.

the frequency range for consumer type devices such as frs two ways, wierless network and the such are at the lowest end of the spectrum. the wierless mics and such all operate on the highest end. most grs or uhf profecinal wierless systems are in the middle you might get some bleed if a cop car goes by or form beltback into the wierless mic but thats why they make diversity systems

I don’t know if any of these have ben mentiond yet, but if your locking for a cheaper way

1. clearcom makes a box that you plug your two way into and connects it to the clearcom system

2. Beltpack.com makes a 4-rackunit system that includes a two way repeater and a inter-connect system that allows connection between clearcom and such

3. Eartec.com makes a that allows 40 users in full duplex system with a add on to one of the packs that connects system to a wired system such as clearcom

All are cheaper solutions than what clearcom or telex offers for full systems
