the two standards

"it's not brain surgery"

and (to quote Charles Nelson Reilly) "It's only a little show..."

both to remind us that, while what we do is important, most of the time it's not life-and-death, eh?

I kept sending you light this weekend since I knew, being unable to access the site, that you were either slamming code or slamming your head against a wall. You are deeply appreciated. Thank you

Tools of the Trade / Re: Running Shoes

I recently purchased a pair of black dearfoam sport on remainder sale, and immediately went back for two more pair. I am never turning back! comfy, silent, slipons that stay on, and not overly expensive. I don't normally love shoes (odd sized feet and too many injuries) but oh my goodness these are comfortable!

dallas - I am stealing your mentor's saying - and posting it on my callboard next time I have super-high-maintenance actors/designers!

[OT] glad to hear you are ok, kiwitechgirl - as someone unfamiliar with NZ geography, I had no idea if any of "us" happened to be in the line of destruction or not - please take care, sending light and good wishes to you and all the folks there [return to topic]

Welcome Katie

Both your questions have been discussed at length on these boards. Here are some links to get you started - there are quite a few more that you will discover as you start wandering the site and checking out various topics.

I am also moving this to the Students and Novice Stage Managers thread, where the other discussions on these topics have been held.

Looking forward to hearing your success stories!

Sorry I don't have access to the laws, but filming/taping actually falls under AFTRA/SAG for performers, plus intellectual/design/artistic copyright for the designers (SSDC and the various unions etc) - even if no one is union, they need to get permission from set/lights/costumer/sound/props as well as all performers - and include crew/SM/ASM because their work is visible even if they are not.

(side note): in Streetcar, three S characters are Stanley, Stella, Steve - often on stage at the same time. Yeah, makes it fun!

not sure what you mean, but I have worked on shows where the playwright used Final Draft and we updated in the script as we worked.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Talk Backs
« on: Aug 29, 2010, 02:30 am »
assume this was not an AEA show? A talkback at intermission means no one gets a break, resets don't happen, etc etc - and since actors are not required to be there regardless I would'a let the actors know they'd be totally justified to skip and concentrate/focus on their act 2 work.

809
um, Final Draft? the script/screenwriter's computer program that does all the work for you? Your writer shd have this, and even sending you an editable copy can lock page numbers so the system formats all the a-through-whatever pages for you. And if they are any kind of writer they know abt it and own the program.

Yes it makes sense
the director wants to hear sound cues
before the audience does
