You'll enjoy a previous thread titled Stage Managing Your Life - http://smnetwork.org/forum/the-green-room/stage-managing-your-life/msg34169/#msg34169.

Always remember: you are not alone.  ;)

The Green Room / Re: Actor fired after confronting heckler
« on: Jun 04, 2014, 03:49 pm »
There are many articles out today about this incident, LA Times, The Wrap, Playbill - here's the one I plan on sharing with students in the fall, since it asks what can theater managers do to prevent things like this:

http://www.hesherman.com/2014/06/03/when-the-audience-bellows-louder-than-big-daddy/

Excellent article. Sums it up quite well. If anything comes of this hopefully it will be that other theaters will take note on what to do should the same happen to them.

Because the actor actually touched the patron...unfortunately I have to side with his firing. If the heckling was going on for any length of time, I wonder where house management was to step in quickly and escort him from the audience.

Thank you for asking (and thank you to those that answered), because I've wondered the same thing!

Sounds like bar conversation to me!  ;D

Dallas 10086,

Did CTC build him in-house?

Yes, he was built in-house. The puppet was designed by Magda Guichard.

I saw Rupert's picture on Twitter and he looks fantastic. I don't know if I'll have a chance to swing by with the show I'm working on, but I'd certainly love to.

Let me know if you plan on stopping by and I'll see what I can do.

Word version of Scrooge! The Musical.

Side note: I HATE thinking about the Christmas show before it's even summer!

The Reluctant Dragon
Children's Theatre of Charlotte
Charlotte, NC

Running through May 4th.

I'm quite proud of this, mostly because Rupert (the name we've given our dragon) is a 25' long puppet - that's just over half the length of our stage - that is 12' tall and takes 4 actors to operate. The rehearsal process was very different than I've done in the past, and some days it was very much trial by error. But he looks fantastic - he even got his own standing ovation on opening night.

Here's a video of our Dragon Walk (I'm in the pink shirt "steering" Rupert): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_-8q6wnK0w&feature=youtu.be

The show closes in two weeks, so there's little to nothing I can do to change anything as far as safety is concerned at this point.

What issues with safety are you having?

To add what iamchristuffin said:

At this meeting your producer should publicly pass the baton over to you, letting the designers know that any and all questions they have need to go to you first, then if it's something you can't handle or answer, you will go to the producer.

Sounds like quite the frustrating situation, I wouldn't subject myself to it twice.

During my divorce, I was informed of my wife's decision for the divorce ten minutes before I was supposed to leave for rehearsal.

Yeah...for me it was telling my husband, after days of pressure to talk, that I wanted a divorce. Then having to go into first rehearsal the next day after a sleepless night. I texted my director that I may be quiet that day.
